The raw turnout for this race is bananas. It dwarfs previous senate primaries. It’s higher than two of the last three presidential primaries in Michigan, and equal to the third, 2020, with over a dozen candidates on the ballot.

Amy Pistone@apistone.bsky.social · 2w agoFor a LONG TIME I shied away from working on things like women and gender because I didn't want to be a woman who works on women because (through some kind of osmosis) I got the sense that that kind of scholarship is for people who "can't hack it" as a "real" classicist
Years ago, when I was in grad school, I sent off an article about the Christian masculinity of Klansman to a history journal. One of the reviewers told me that my topic was clearly not about gender. I will never forget that.

One of my favorite educational memories was in a biblical criticism class where we spent a session covering feminist criticism and a man said "I can't do feminist criticism on this passage--there's no women in it!" And I was like, My brother in Christ. You're off to a great start.
