We need elevator reform so urgently - we do not have enough accessible units for disabled people and seniors, especially in places with the transit, amenities, and infrastructure that help people stay independent and connected to their communities!
Today, @sightline.org's @andersem.bsky.social and @aarporegon.bsky.social presented to the Oregon Senate Housing Committee on the importance of supporting policy efforts to allow more Oregonians to age in place. One key way to make that happen? more elevators! #orleg

Also, if you live in a part of the country that is not welcoming to you, because you're LGBTQ+ or because you're an immigrant or because you're being denied reproductive health care or for any other reason related to who you are, please consider coming to Portland.
See you TONIGHT, at White Owl Social Club from 6-8PM for our monthly Social Hour! We would love to see you <3

Idaho legalized ADUs statewide. Boise is making them easier to build with free pre-approved plans and streamlined permitting. Great case of state reform creating a floor and local leaders raising it. ⬆️
With free plans, Boise has big hopes for tiny homes. It starts in your own backyard
Boise is offering free plans to homeowners who want to add an accessory-dwelling unit, and local residents are starting to take note.

portland bluesky says it’s time to upzone the inner eastside
33 responses now. Bluesky certainly not a representative sample, but clear pattern emerging. No love for the far east side or southwest
Good thing I unanimously passed Inner Eastside For All with the help of @portlandneighborswelcome.org 🥳

"For all the press that standard backyard cottages or mother-in-law units have gotten over the years—that is, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), with foundations—in the Cully neighborhood mobile dwellings have become the preferred way to add living space to one’s property" - @citizen-cate.bsky.social
The unofficial census results are in: Five years after Portland, OR, legalized mobile dwelling units, they've already eclipsed traditional ADUs. @citizen-cate.bsky.social
"...local governments are still telling would-be transit riders that it is illegal to live next door. This has always been insane from both climate and economic growth perspectives, but now it is urgent."
Transit-Oriented Development is a surprisingly underrated path to ending America’s housing problems
America’s rail systems are still recovering from 2020, and robot cars are coming. Legalize apartments first.

Listening to this conversation that happened at Portland City Council today about single stair design, and some barriers that still exist to this form of housing. @counciloravalos.bsky.social has a thread summarizing below 🙌 Timestamped Youtube link here: www.youtube.com/live/Oy3ih6W...

Next up: Vice Chair Green and I have invited @portlandneighborswelcome.org and their partners to tell us about a single-stair design competition they recently organized. The competition is part of a broader initiative focused on mid-rise housing development and single-stair building code changes.
Thank you for inviting us to present! We were so delighted to show off the incredible work of the design students who participated and talk a little bit about the policy conversation and real-world development context of single-stair building code reform! The full submissions are here: pnwdreams.org
