Portland: Neighbors Welcome

@portlandneighborswelcome.org

Housing is a human right. Fighting for tenants rights along with four floors and corner stores across Portland for all ages, wages and stages of life. 🏘️

I'll be speaking at @yimby.town in Raleigh this November about our efforts to pass a bill for funded Inclusionary Zoning in the Oregon Legislature this last session, a wonky and complicated and nuanced issue that @andersem.bsky.social did a better job summarizing than I ever could

An environmental justice champion led the push to end counterproductive, unfunded mandates.

My friend’s dad fell down stairs at his apartment building a few years ago and it had a dramatic impact on his health. My grandparents were just in a car accident because their senior community is in the middle of nowhere. Elevator reform is the answer to preventing all of this.

I have a confession to make. The townhomes I & others spent most of a decade trying to legalize are popping up all over Oregon & elsewhere...and I love that...but they're a problem in one big way. (get ready for a twisty thread about the housing report @sightline.org just published)

I was part of PNW’s endorsement process in 2024, and I have to say this year the process was so much more thorough and deliberate, with volunteers dedicating a ton of time and effort. I urge you to go to our website to read more about our thoughts on this election.

If there was a word better than "honored" to express how I feel about earning earn Portland Neighbors Welcome's endorsement, I would use it here. They're fighting for a Portland that my kids (and all of us!) can actually afford to live in. I am honored to be in that fight with them.

Today, @sightline.org's @andersem.bsky.social and @aarporegon.bsky.social presented to the Oregon Senate Housing Committee on the importance of supporting policy efforts to allow more Oregonians to age in place. One key way to make that happen? more elevators! #orleg

We need elevator reform so urgently - we do not have enough accessible units for disabled people and seniors, especially in places with the transit, amenities, and infrastructure that help people stay independent and connected to their communities!
