Nobody, certainly not classics scholars, are swinging against Nolan. Not loving something is perfectly fine. Not loving certain elements of Nolan’s take also fine. She’s not asking for Nolan to make the film she wants; but explaining why parts of the film didn’t hit with her.

If the academy gets pulled into coming out swinging against the biggest adaptation of Homer in probably a couple generations off the back of one prominent scholar deciding to be Reviewer 2 to Nolan's work, it will say, IMO, pretty damning things about academia's ability to foster public engagement.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.

NEW from me: Last night, the AAUP filed its second lawsuit against a Texas higher-ed system in recent weeks. This time, it's asking a federal judge to block what it calls a “prophylactic ban on politically disfavored speech related to race, gender, and sexual orientation" at Texas A&M.

The slush fund was always a decoy of sorts. They tossed their henchmen under the bus (who could see that coming) to lock down the tax immunity. The entire deal was corrupt. Both ends. Start to finish. This is how Blanche does the job. Not reason to confirm him; it's proof he should be rejected.

A big caution about the Hinojosa numbers: Talarico is benefitting from 12% of his voters being ticket-splitters. That seems *wild* to me, personally, but it does suggest that Paxton has a uniquely repellent profile. GOP is suffering in general, but not as much as Paxton. /4
