Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

“Because of a concerted campaign to promote anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric… search engine and social media algorithms now assume that LGBTQIA+ content is unpopular or offensive and should be suppressed, putting outlets at an inherent disadvantage.” We need to disrupt algorithms that trash good journalism.

Metric anxiety is fueling a dangerous decline in quality queer journalism

Why so many articles about queer people focus on celebs, rely on pics of hypermasculine guys and use rage-bait misinformation

It called on “mediators and the international community” to “act urgently to stop the dangerous Israeli escalation and the massacres being committed against the police force.”

🚨 Israeli strike targeting Gaza City police kills 9, wounds 15 At least 9 Palestinians were killed & 15 wounded on Wed. in an Israeli airstrike on the Municipalities Police headquarters in Gaza City, according to Gaza’s Interior Min. The strike hit during a busy time in the middle of day & close...

middle of day and close to a crowded municipal park, with sources at Al-Shifa Hospital saying most of the wounded were in critical condition.

Footage from Drop Site contributor Mohamed Ahmed shows ambulances arriving as people rush to carry the dead and wounded, including a woman and a child.

“They killed people — elderly people, children, and women. And then they talk about a truce,” eyewitness Abu Al-Baha said.

“Every day we say, ‘Tomorrow there’s hope. There is still hope,’ while the number of martyrs keeps rising. Let people feel for us. Yesterday, it was the port. Today, the municipal park, full of children. Every day, they take revenge on us.” On Tuesday, Israel bombed the port area west of Gaza City killing at least seven Palestinians.

Gaza’s Interior Ministry called for urgent intervention by mediators and the international community to stop Israeli attacks on the civil police force, saying Israel was seeking to cripple the police and “spread chaos within Palestinian society.”

Hamas called the attack a “new Zionist war crime,” saying most of those killed were police officers and personnel. It rejected the Israeli military’s claim that resistance leaders were targeted as “baseless.”

The group said the attack, coming after recent contacts with mediators and meetings with “Board of Peace” member Jared Kushner aimed at advancing the ceasefire agreement, showed Netanyahu’s government was deliberately seeking to undermine those efforts. Hamas called on mediators, particularly the Trump administration, to take immediate action to halt the escalation and pressure Israel to abide by the agreement.

I truly don't think the average person understands the extent to which we're coasting into a surveillance future that is basically 1:1 with some of the heaviest mid-century dystopian surveillance fiction with very little public discussion or input. Turns out we did not have to be forced into it

NEW: Flock has said for years that its cameras "cannot track individuals." We found the code for its new AI tool. It's preloaded w/ prompts like "Find me witness" & "find relatives." One tracks visitors of multiple hotels, another if you visit banks after midnight. www.wired.com/story/flock-...

“After analyzing crash data over a 13-year period in areas with separated bike lanes on city streets, researchers estimated that having a protected bike facility in a city would result in 44% fewer deaths and 50% fewer serous injuries than an average city.” Safer for ALL. Via @usa.streetsblog.org

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA

Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

the fact that john ossoff can kick off a two-day media cycle by saying that the president is uninterested in doing his job and is sleeping through meetings and traveling around with a young blonde, suggests that not enough of these guys are speaking plainly and effectively about these assholes

A police officer who spoke out against Flock cameras was subjected to 5 internal investigations in 2 years after he contacted a reporter about the dangers of mass surveillance.

The reason I've gone more left in recent years is that I previously accepted that we simply couldn't afford decent cheap housing, heavily subsidised transport, a universal basic income, etc. Then in 20 years in politics I saw what we actually could afford. And it's a lot. It's just never for you.

The Trump administration just finalized its rule stripping gender-affirming care from Medicaid and CHIP. Advocates say there's still time to fight: it takes effect in October, and federal courts have already struck down two previous attempts to do this. The latest from our journalist S. Baum.

Trump Issues “Finalized” Anti-Trans Medicaid Rule, But Human Rights Groups Say There’s Still Time

“Despite this being called a ‘final rule,’ we have time to fight back. Nothing will change overnight.”

This is a great example of why Jeffries is not the man for the moment, and a bad choice to be Speaker. Instead of hitting the unity notes that Dems are doing well in Michigan and Wisconsin, he’s obsessing about local NYC politics because he’s afraid of losing power and it’s hurting Dems nationally.

WELKER: Do democratic socialists belong in the Dem Party? JEFFRIES: What I can say is I do not support defunding the police, I do not support open borders, I do not support abolishing the Senate. We're focused on actually solving the problems hard-working American taxpayer want us to solve ...

There is a small war being waged on the surveillance state across the US What's funny is that these reveal that they do biometric data but they will still lie and say it's for license plates

Police are asking for the public's help in finding the criminals who vandalized several flock cameras in a South Carolina town by spraying expanding foam on them.

Authorities believe the at-large criminals snuck up behind the cameras with spray foam canisters and sprayed the lenses before the cameras had a chance to ID them.

1/ I’ve avoided writing anything about Kristin Du Mez’s upcoming book, Live Laugh Love, primarily because voices more erudite than mine among the early readers have been touting it, well. However, with the release coming up soon, I find I now can’t help myself and I’d like to add in my two cents.

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X. I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!). So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.
