A new AI proposal from @sanders.senate.gov and @repcasar.bsky.social would ban the development or use of "superintelligence" (where AI systems surpass human intelligence and may have powers of self-preservation) with a 20-year prison sentence. Plus a cabinet-level federal agency tasked with safety.

Our entire economy is balanced on the circular, gargantuan investment in AI + data centers. We’re held hostage, and made to pay for our own destruction. To pull the plug on data centers, etc, will cause ruin. With so many finance and Tech fortunes on the line, they won’t slow down despite the danger

I agree with much of this, that polling is now heavily affected by secret sauce modeling. I also agree I would like more pollsters to release estimates using different model assumptions. My addendum is that I would like to see different turnout scenarios (high, average, low)

I think the political left should be the loudest voice calling for an AI model development pause, frontier pacing, and mandatory third party audits right now. Put aside the doomer stuff (though I think it’s plausible), we just found out that OpenAI’s agents committed a pretty major felony!
It’s obviously powerful and powerfully destructive technology with huge unintended consequences and we’re seeing them play out. The models are OBVIOUSLY getting much better. At a minimum you’re building something that will be the most potent cyber security threat that has ever existed.
