exactly this: simply by existing, i am an 'activist' and not to be heard
They do this in the media as well, a trans person is called an "activist", by dint of existing and saying "please don't treat me cruelly," whereas "gender critical" people, who are in every sense of the word extremists, get gentler words, like "feminist" or "women's rights campaigner" etc.
*Will Self* speaking blistering truth to power and taking names was not on my bingo card, but 2026 is wild like that. Let that man cook.
This is bracing, remarkable reading by Will Self about Jason Arday, naming names in blistering terms, including several prominent TERFs who joined the kicking of Arday. May Kathleen Stock and Sarah Ditum and everyone else involved never live this down.
For those who want to know just what a difference diagnosis and treatment of ADHD makes when you're an adult, should read this thread (his description of the effects of lisdexamfetamine closely match my own experiences)
I have ADHD. I'm also a physicist. I got the ADHD diagnosis about a year and a half ago, after really struggling with work for a few years. I didn't know about it when I was in school, or when I started a physics undergrad as a mature student, or through my PhD. I have thoughts:
The Law of Unintended Consequences (2025), Section 7, sub-section (4)(d). I laughed and laughed.
They're taking delight in their hypocrisy and cruelty
The Labour government publishing this just two weeks after bringing in a nationwide toilet ban for trans people and two weeks before their trans section 28 comes into effect in English schools was certainly a fucking choice petition.parliament.uk/petitions/76...
A video about a 30 years ago you had to monitor your spark plugs and now they last 100k miles...with a lot of people in the comments unironically giving 30 year old advice on oil changes. Synthetic oil is different! You can go 10k miles! We are in the future --the bad one with cars but still.
this video is not about spark plugs

There seems to be a concerted effort right now to undermine the diagnosis/concept of ADHD and/or autism. It’s probably been going on for awhile, but I’ve really seen it take hold lately, and it’s really concerning. A lot of parallel to the undermining of gender identity and trans healthcare, too.
Whoa my book just got a glowing review in a math journal, and the best part is the reviewer’s main complaint: she kept wanting more math, then remembered it isn’t written for mathematicians. Correct! It’s for EVERYONE—no formulas, just stories of data fighting injustice. I hope you will read it.
Andrew is *so* good -- I really wish I was up in Edinburgh rn simply so I could see their show!
My 20th Fringe started with a sold-out show, and Frank Skinner in the audience. No flyers, no posters, no PR, no management, no producer, no director, no writers. Just me and a pig-headed refusal to give up. KRILL!!! Tickets: andrewoneill.co.uk/shows

We have secured the future of the Trans Pride Centre! Thanks to the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, we have been awarded a grant of £121,278! This money is ringfenced to keep the rent paid, the lights on, and training for new volunteers covered for the next five years.
It’s so weird to feel kinda erased from much the coverage of a show that’s so much mine & semi-autobiographical. Like long reviews comparing the writing to Douglas Adams where I’m not named once. And I feel discomfort that it even makes me uncomfortable at all. 1/
After Stock professed extremist ideology twice this past week (e.g. disabled women are faking; autistic people and people with ADHD are 'unsuited' for academia) and being billed as an expert during the Arday plagiarism scandal, I forgot until now that Stock was involved in her own plagiarism scandal
We can't really say this enough... > Anastasia Berg [at UCL Irvine] said that new research — and what she's hearing directly from colleagues across various industries — shows that employees who heavily rely on AI are losing core skills at a startling rate. www.businessinsider.com/ai-tools-are...

A philosophy professor warns that AI reliance is weakening workers' judgment, creativity, and problem-solving.

Do you know what it's like to be a minority in the UK that knows any misstep could mean you're next with the UK press? You don't even have to actually do anything, just come across the wrong person.

Good on @sarahowen.org.uk for reminding us how confusing and inconsistent the EHRC CoP is. And this… Stephenson: “But there is no, for example, criminal Offences of using the wrong space unless…” Unfortunately, she never went further after that word ‘unless…’. Curious. vm.tiktok.com/ZN88y5muH/

The EHRC meets with organisations hostile to trans people and our rights. But would it meet with people opposed to homosexuality, race-realists, or organisations wanting to remove women’s bodily autonomy? If not, why are trans people the exception? These are the questions we have asked the EHRC!
