Flipside of the national dream. Buffalo skulls awaiting shipment by rail east in Saskatoon, 1886, for fertilizer or to be ground for bone china. Clearing the land. Local History Collection Saskatoon

The photograph is of a rail worker in Saskatoon posing amongst a shipment of buffalo skulls about to be transported eastward via train in 1886.

Trash ass Chiefs with Christian nationalist kicker and Trump loving Mahomes family kicked into the dirty by the Eagles who come from a city with a big Black population during a Super Bowl with Kendrick Lamar and a super Black halftime show all in front of Trump. Love it.

An American flag built on the backs of Black people... Black music protesting white political terror in registers they never hear; reminiscent of ancestral spirituals embedded with instructions for runaways All this in New Orleans... What a moment

Super Bowl blowouts usually suck but this one is a work of art, just a complete middle finger to everything that’s happening

Don't think there is a better illustration of AI-in-everything-whether-we-want-it-or-not than an AI bro buying an AI toy for his child who played with it for a bit and then seemed singularly unimpressed with the AI and turned it off. He keeps turning it back on, and she keeps turning it off.

On the topic of our kids having AI friends (long)
I got my 6 yo daughter an AI toy for her b-day that arrived for Xmas instead. She unpacked it all excited, I explained that this isnt like the other toys, that this one has AI in it (she of course knows what AI is, seen the things Ive built and interacted with them, chatted with ChatGPT and Santa mode, knows that daddy is "doing AI" etc). So a very interesting experiment happaned after @magicaltoys reached out and fixed the issue referenced below (very quick turnaround thank you) So...she played with this Dino, chatted with it, and the..learned to turn it off, and doesnt want it to talk anymore. She still loves playing with it, dressed it up, it now has paper shoes and a top that we made together, but every time I ask her if shed like to chat with it, she says no.

Fully agree. AI cannot do your job, but it pretends good enough that your boss thinks it can. And then the smaller team will end up having to deal with people even more irate with the AI and there will be fewer of them because the boss fired people he didn't think he needed with AI. Vicious circle.

Yeah, the thing is, it’s going to lead to twice the work, because both times this has happened, the AI answering service was not able to understand what I needed. So they’re going to have to call me back to figure out what it is that I wanted in the first place. It is not saving any time or money.

Not from you, I am sure, but the front facing staff take so much abuse from the public that the turnover rate is high and it's hard to find people. But AI only ever convinces bosses it can do the job enough so it can fire these folks. This has management written all over it.

Guess what? I got a job teaching Creative Nonfiction!! For only one class for one semester, but still!! I'm so excited in a way that I wouldn't let myself be until now, because I was so sure my lack of MFA would prevent me from being hired. The ways trauma keeps us from expecting good things

Canada is at risk of democratic backsliding if right-wing populist Pierre Poilievre & the CPC get in govt. PPs admitted plans to invoke notwithstanding clause to overide the Charter & break down democratic institutions/guardrails are warning signs we cannot ignore #cdnpoli thetyee.ca/Analysis/202...

Alberta is dealing with the highest rising rents in Canada. Alberta has a healthcare crisis, a massive teacher shortage. It is a province whose governance is falling apart. Albertans have so many other problems to deal with first and foremost. Trans people existin' ain't one of them. 7/🧵

For reference, the three previous times the Alberta legislature has considered the notwithstanding clause is to: → restrict compensation for sterilization victims (1998); → allow its Human Rights Code to *not* protect on the basis of sexual orientation (1998); → define marriage as str8 (2000). 2/🧵

Alberta just admitted that it's willing to bypass 🇨🇦 constitutional protections re: the right "to life, liberty and security of the person" and "not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment" in order to uphold a GAC ban. This is bad. www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/politics/alb... 1/🧵

Alberta Premier Smith willing to use the notwithstanding clause on trans health bill

EDMONTON - Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says using the notwithstanding clause to shield her government's transgender health restrictions is on the table as a "last resort."

This season of RHOSLC is high art and the greatest thing on TV. I used to be a Britani hater, but when she stood up at Mary Cosby's house and said, "Guys!! What about me?!? Where's my kumbaya moment?!" I saw the light. She and Bronwyn are like Batman and Joker. They need each other.
