👁️ Delhi, India. Pandwala Khurd Community Centre. Civilians that attended a peaceful protest (including children) were kidnapped and beaten by authorities. 📸 from disha verma’s (@di_shawarma on X/Twitter) recount. Though the civilians have been released, international solidarity is needed 👇

This is the most horrific detention story you will hear today.
At 8 PM, this bus stopped at a community centre in Pandwalan Khurd (see photo).
Detainees fractured. Four minors present. Everyone barbarically beaten up. No lawyers allowed to enter.
This is how we got here.disha verma @di_shawarma • 36m
...
Peaceful protestors were detained from CP & taken to LIC—in a space sealed off from lawyers, journalists, crowds.
They were made to kneel down in a row.
Cops frisked them & physically snatched all their phones.
One by one, they deleted videos and photos, and kept their phones.

The detainees were told, time and again, that nothing will happen to them if they cooperated.
They did. And then they got brutalised. One by one, in those tiny bus compartments-everyone was hit.
An officer identified to lead this extrajudicial violence is named ARVIND KUMAR.disha verma @di_shawarma • 36m

They then profiled & selected some detainees and took them into buses used for convicts, with tiny compartments & no airflow.
@DelhiPolice then BEAT THEM UP, black & blue. It was described to us as "merciless thrashing" with only screams escaping that suffocating, jail-like bus.

Guess what? I had some *thoughts* on Michael Shellenberger & the State Dept's Sarah Rogers losing their minds about a disinfo conference in Lithuania having a panel exploring if the US interferes in foreign information systems... and then interfering to get the conference sponsors to pull out.

US Gov’t Interferes To Get Foreign Sponsors To Drop Conference Because A Panel Asks If The US... @eudiplomacy.bsky.social https://www.techdirt.com/2026/10/08/us-govt-interferes-to-get-foreign-sponsors-to-drop-conference-because-a-panel-asks-if-the-us-engages-in-foreign-information-interference/

For those who don’t know, the State Dept appears to have pressured Lithuanian, French, & other attendees of a conference in Vilnius this week. Shellenberger was suddenly concurrently in all of the attendees’ inboxes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ www.rapporteur.com/news/eeas-ru...

It's good to point out these sorts of lame intimidation efforts. But it's also important to put the ineffectiveness in context. If the goal is to promote voting, flagging the structural limitations of federal threats should be part of that process.

Look, this is bad. Yes. But the Trump admin sent six (6) people to Maricopa and Pima. Where, by my count, there are 404 polling places, spread across 18,000 square miles (each county is ~9k sq mi). What they want is the FEAR to discourage the voting they can't actually prevent.

NEW: In a major break from past norms, the Trump administration sent criminal prosecutors and an FBI agent to monitor voters in Arizona's primaries earlier this year. The push comes as Trump exerts pressure on state elections as part of an ongoing attempt to find fraud before the midterms.

Inside you are two wolves: one wishes to write a quick snarky headline and the other chimes in with "actually, it's much more nuanced than that" and begins to write a 2000-word blog post.

"The Trump administration pushed the FBI to investigate Los Angeles protesters in violation of their constitutional rights and the bureau’s policies, a former FBI supervisor alleges in a new whistleblower complaint." NBC's indefatigable @ryanjreilly.com reports buff.ly/bBe5Xnz

FBI whistleblower says White House pushed unconstitutional probe of protesters

The former analyst says supervisors were told not to put things in writing, so many of the directives came in face-to-face meetings.

last year we did a little made up holiday called Opt Out October that was all about taking control of your data across platforms. This year we decided to talk about how many excellent alternatives to the products made by big tech are out there www.eff.org/pages/welcom...

Welcome to Opt Out October. Let’s Take Control of Our Data and Our Devices

Big tech companies are hell-bent on taking away our agency and forcing us to use their surveillance-based services, apps, and devices. It’s hard to fight against, and it often feels much easier to giv...
