any statement like ‘Gen z have no literacy/cannot write/spell/communicate’ that is not also coupled with ‘their means of learning has been eradicated by tech fascism and government removal of funding’ is not worth listening to or boosting. the kids are living under the regime we allowed

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.

The two of them are twins in my mind. Two great artists whose activism was so ingrained in who they are that you couldn’t separate it from how they lived and moved through the world. And it’s from an abundance of care and love for the world and its people, especially those at the bottom.

“She was the voluptuous embodiment of empathy,” Jane Fonda writes about her friend Dolly Parton. “That’s something of hers she’d want us all to take with us.” "To her gay and trans fans, I want you to know that she loved you. You know that without me telling you.” www.justjared.com/2026/08/25/j...

This is a particularly good time to remind/tell followers on here that I write a newsletter about the football data industry. (And have been for 5-6 years). It's maybe a little more irreverent than it should be. You can read it and subscribe etc here: www.getgoalsideanalytics.com

Carries > dribbling mostly because the definition of a dribble is baggy and isn’t what you’d think it means (Futi sensibly lumps both together as this post makes clear)

When you look at the most common data, you'll see that Christos Tzolis didn't complete a single 'dribble' (more accurately, 'take-on') last night. On @futi.live he gets 99 for 'dribbling' because he was so progressive/direct and effective in carrying the ball into dangerous areas.

Christos Tzolis page on futi - 99 for dribbling against Coventry - and the definition for their dribbling skill:

Value added by carrying the ball and taking on defenders.

Tzolis' 2025/26 numbers but scaled to EPL level (by comparing with existing PL wingers) show a player more than ready to produce pretty ace performances on the regular And, there were definitely hints of that as a 19yo at PAOK, but he's ramped up his carrying and overall output (GDA) a lot

Please: not every football shirt/cultural behemoth crossover is a good idea, especially when they look cobbled together and the show in question had some football references but wore them pretty lightly. This is how good things become really tired and dull.

Full of despair today. Massive lay offs in social sciences and humanities across the country, Burnham puts out a video saying 'AI can write an essay', and my university is busy integrating co-pilot into all staff and student computers. We are being told we're defunct and there's no resistance.

OK, we've got just under a month until the Premier League kicks off, sooner if you're a fan of the EFL or SPL, and you know what, I really enjoyed the football posting over the World Cup and think we should keep up that energy. Here's the Starter Pack I made for it go.bsky.app/EvGoMRN
