Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

St Jerome in Cologne Cathedral – labelled, fortunately, otherwise I might not have recognised him without his lion(an early CAT tool) and wyvern (the prototype of Dragon). Representations of Jerome never show him looking happy; that's what unreasonable client expectations will do to you! #xl8 🌐

Photo of a stained glass window, in Cologne Cathedral, depicting St Jerome (Hieronymus). He is wearing long, red robes, and is holding a green book, spine facing forward, under his left arm. His right hand is lying on his chest. He is bald, with a long beard, and has a halo. He is looking up, to the right, with an expression halfway between annoyance and resignation.

The Four Latin Doctors St Ambrose, St Gregory, St Jerome and St Augustine at Fosdyke, Lincolnshire. Probably by Clayton & Bell in the 1870s as at neighbouring Algakirk. The church was rebuilt at the expense of Basil Beridge, Lord of the Manor and Rector of Algakirk. Today's the feast of St Jerome.

this guy's obviously never met a translator, or a teacher, or a graphic designer, or an illustrator, or a musician, or an editor, or tried to just open a pdf, or use a search engine, or use any part of the internet without being drowned in a sea of meaningless shit

Greetings from the path from Prague to Stará Boleslav, where Czechs (and at least one Englishman) are gathering in honour of that "good king" from the carol. For the day that's in it, here's a new piece about why his name in English has an N, but not so in Czech. dannybate.com/2026/09/28/g...

Good King Václav

Every September 28th, thanks to a brutal fratricide over a thousand years ago, the Czech Republic gives itself a day off. The victim of that crime was Wenceslaus, ruler of Bohemia from 921 to maybe…

Received the author's feedback. She is *very* happy & has made a few mostly minor suggestions. Plus she answered my questions (though I don't guarantee there won't be any more!) Now I just need to update the file with all changes, run electronic checks, & deliver. #LiteraryTranslation #xl8 🌐 💙📚 🇸🇰

The final round of edits! I am *so* excited about this book – it is one of the most gorgeous books I have ever read, and it was a pleasure and a privilege to translate it! #LiteraryTranslation #AmTranslating #AmEditing #xl8 🌐 💙📚 🇸🇰

Photo. A heap of papers and a book – the book, in Slovak, is Kornélie by Beata Balogová. The cover is pale blue with the wording in coral pink, and an image of a sprig of forget-me-nots in outline, with a woman's face visible behind some of the flowers, extends across it. The heap of papers contain the English translation. The top page has the words "Kornelias, by Beata Balogová, translated from the Slovak by Isabel Stainsby" handwritten in red. On the second page, the words "PROLOGUE" and "A story grows in every family. A family with no story is scattered..." are just visible.

"Using Al doesn't 'save time' ... it saves YOU time, and then everyone else has to waste THEIR time wading through endless slop, triple checking every claim, re-reading things six times because it barely makes plausible sense" keirangoddard / IG
