Queer cartoonist, zine-maker and gay disaster. Books: Quick & Easy Guide To They/Them Pronouns, Mimosa, Grease Bats, History Comics:The Stonewall Riots, Yes I’m Flagging, Teleportation and Orher Luxuries. Soon: LEO RISING✨

I regularly get graphic novels from the library, and my favorite pick of this run is Leo Rising by Archie Bongiovanni for accurately depicting Messy Queer People of the current age. Page 149-154 took a day to work up to because of the sheer cringe-inducing social awkwardness.

17. top 5 children's books? Basically anything that Archie BonGiovanni has touched and a handful of other queer creators, who make essential books for children on how to understand trans and queer identities, our history, the gender binary and beyond, and even they/them pronoun use.

"This page took me maybe an hour to complete... and this comic has about thirty pages... that means if I really buckle down I could get the whole thing done in a standard work week, two at the most..." <--- the reckonings of a misguided fool

I can not emphasize this enough but librarians are the best researchers out there and you can JUST EMAIL THEM a question and they will send you source material and references and information! For free! I do it all the time and it's great!

Next is the perfect book for your queer book club, LEO RISING. A gold star lesbian influencer realizes he may be trans and has to grapple with his very public identity crisis—from the inimitable Archie Bongiovanni, who I truly think is one of the great queer writers of our generation. :D

Wacom recently asked me to talk about why I make queer comics, and given there are multiple bills right now floating around in congress that are effectively "we will kill your livelihood if we get a sniff of queer" I had some pretty strong, simply feelings to relay.

I love this review!!! "Bongiovanni takes us directly into Laura/Leo’s confusion, avoiding neat resolutions and instead painting a complex character portrait that emphasises how nuanced and layered the themes of the book are."
