I know public transit might be a new experience for some folks but when you’re in a packed terminal train and there are multiple people trying to get through the doorway you’re standing in, including someone in a wheelchair, it shouldn’t take the Evil Perky Voice to prompt you to move.

Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.

AI cures cancer.

Bluesky: actualky the AI didn't really cure cancer. Just predicted the next most likely word in a loop until a solution to cancer was extruded

Hundreds of millions for a gas-guzzling AI machine to power Mark Zuckerberg's advertising business. So much for "sovereignty." That sum is pocket change to Meta, but the federal government thinks lending them this money is a good use of public funds. #Canada #CdnPoli #NoAI #DataCentres #BigTech

NEW: Export Development Canada provided between $100 million and $200 million in project financing for the gas-fired plant that will power Meta's data centre in Sturgeon County, Alta., Canada's National Observer has discovered.

i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.

My mom took me out at the knees today - I was doing the dishes and letting the water run, and she went “sure are using a lot of water for someone who fights data centers” It was such a mom comment, and damn she got me good

A toxic beach is bad for everyone - homeowners, renters, tourists, and obviously our wildlife. Don’t let big oil ruin Vancouver. Let’s join the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and COPE Councillor @seanorrofficial and RESIST development without protections for our residents and our environment.

“Do Dead Malls Go To Heaven?” Experimented a bit with a new way of detailing the tiles. Kinda like it? This particular piece took a hell of a lot of work. I’d love if you shared the vibes it’s giving off, for research purposes. (WIP process in comments)

Sin that must be eternally punished is a culturally Christian idea that you can and should reject. If someone admits wrongdoing and changes their behavior, that's the desired outcome. You don't continue to punish because you then signal there's no point to contrition at all, you're damned either way

Australia is planning some of the world's toughest AI regulations • Water usage will be limited • AI data centers will be required to become net producers of energy • AI companies can't train on Australian creators' work without their permission • Proposals expected to be introduced in 2027

Not a fleshed out thought but I keep thinking about the YouTube kids slop from 5-10 years ago, the Elsa finger family peppa pig Spider-Man stuff that was everywhere, and how it was a problem because it would just auto play and was so… child unfriendly, ultimately

Watching my upstairs neighbor’s cat and I am so much more insulated from street noise facing the courtyard This post is brought to you by the presence of the ice cream man and how much louder it is and how much more I wanna run down and get ice cream

You could get mad about dead senator discourse *or* you could enjoy this video of sea lions who have retaken an island with a decommissioned lighthouse off the coast of Oregon and now use the staircase as a giant slide.
