I'm a big, queer science nerd with a fondness for unicorns, glitter & pink. I study the effects of estrogens, diet, & EDCs on metabolism, stress, repro, et al. I use all pronouns.

I’m back in my lab office for the first time in ~6 weeks. Without the spectre of cancer hanging over my head and heart. 🧚🏻‍♀️🦄💃 Thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff at RWJ for the great care. Thanks to my husband George for taking care of me for the past two months.

Mark this well. A public servant who performed admirably in a crisis is being publicly persecuted, maybe prosecuted. Govt websites are being given over to propaganda. Fake medicines are being praised while lifesaving vaccines are lied about. Slanderous grifters cackle their triumph. Despicable.

Fauci accuses Rand Paul of having an "unhinged obsession with calling for my prosecution" and of making "repeated slanderous comments," then says "although it pains me to do so... under advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the 5th Amendment to refrain from answering your questions."

HAPPENING NOW: Madison, WI: Madison Police Department murdered someone, shooting 3 times in the head at point blank range. Crowd forms in outrage at the scene, near the location where MPD also murdered unarmed teenager Tony Robinson 11 years ago.

🚨Breaking🚨: NIH is terminating health disparities research grants again. This time, they may successfully avoid legal challenges by giving specific reasons for their decisions. A Finnish psychiatrist holds increasing influence over youth gender care worldwide. At home, the inpatient mental health facility she oversees has been repeatedly cited for excessive restraints, invading patient privacy, and other acts of neglect and mistreatment of (cis) adolescents).

As a Gender Critic’s Influence Grew, So Did Concerns About Cis Adolescents in Her Care - Assigned Media

Finnish government reports cite neglectful practices in the mental health care of young people at a hospital affiliated with Riittakerttu Kaltiala.

I love how HR1 (the big beautiful bill) is structured like a series of sequential time bombs set to detonate in 2026, 2027, 2028 and beyond. Next up are the Medicaid work requirements which will add millions more to the uninsured. Then the provider tax changes that will collapse our HCBS system.

Anti-trans laws are going to cause a massive increase in trans youth suicide. The victims who are known to be trans will be the ones with supportive families who helped them access care, and this is going to be used to say that gender-affirming care is not lifesaving.

this is also why you can't appease the right on this issue. bans on trans people in sports are the camel's nose under the tent for the entire suite of right-wing gender politics, including but not limited to bans on gay marriage, abortion, and birth control

I found this quote from Riley Gaines to be really striking. Straight-up conceding that the purpose of trans sports bans is to normalize transphobia, and to give "ordinary" people "more cover" expressing it in public. ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/anti-trans...

In the paragraph that follows, I am going to briefly subject you to something that, if I were not writing a newsletter, I would not ask my worst enemy to read: insights from the mind of Riley Gaines, whose ability to parlay a fifth-place finish at a college swim meet into a career as an anti-trans podcaster is a tribute to what late-stage capitalism can accomplish.

“I think we’re going to continue to see movement and allow the people’s voice to be heard, especially in some of those purple states,” Gaines told Politico last month, after the Supreme Court in West Virginia v. B.P.J. upheld state lawmakers’ power to bar trans girls from playing women’s sports. “Each major decision gives your ordinary person more cover to say something that…was the standard, like the default position to take, really not that long ago.”

In other words, B.P.J. is not (only) about keeping girls like 16-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson from playing on the same team as her friends. It is about empowering people to feel more comfortable expressing rank bigotry in public.

If you followed this story, you'd know that Northwestern crowed about Dr. Thrasher's appointment, his tenure file was robust, but it became inconvenient to have him on the faculty. It's a case of cowardice, obeying in advance & it happened under President Biden. Some things we can't blame on Trump.

Ryan Quinn@ryanequinn.bsky.social · 3w ago

Steven Thrasher sued Northwestern University and four top federal officials this week, alleging that Northwestern denied him tenure because, among other things, federal agencies pressured officials to punish his pro-Palestine activism. www.insidehighered.com/news/quick-t...

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

So this is an *invited* op-ed that appears to be mostly one guy, and they (he?) gives a shout out to someone known for arguing trans women are inherently predatory.

edit
On December 29, 2024, Coyne wrote an article for the website of the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) which argued that sex is biological and binary and that trans women were more sexually predatory than other women.[31] The FFRF's presidents removed the article one day later, describing its publication as an error of judgement on their part.[32] Coyne resigned from the board of honorary members in response.[33] His resignation was followed by those of Steven Pinker and Richard Dawkins, after which the FFRF dissolved the honorary board.[32][34]

In a new #Viewpoint we argue that the binary definition of #BiologicalSex based on gamete size is a scientifically robust framework that is entirely compatible with the diversity of sexual phenotypes and human gender identities. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
