i've been thinking recently about why i have a reflexive dislike of the 'comedy needs balance' line, and i think it's because political comedy is the act of saying "hey, you're not mad, the world really does look like THIS", and that doesn't need "balancing" because *the rest of society* does that

Dangerous crossings must stop immediately. Smuggling networks must be dismantled. And returns must be swift, as our rules allow.

I’m so confused about how much work - or appearance of work - has been done to make Shakespeare studies less elitist, yet one of the biggest conferences remains *invitation only*. I’m not trying to be shady, I’m just genuinely confused as to how delegates who otherwise espouse fairness justify this
