You can't make conspiracy theorists like MAHA/anti-vaxxers into normal voters again by addressing what they say are their concerns, because their real concerns are railing against expertise & feeling like they have secret knowledge. They don't want the world to be better, they want to feel special.

Not sure there's anything I go back&forth more than electing anyone in the criminal justice hierarchy (judges, prosecutors, etc). It's more democratic, yes, but also so much more openly corrupt than common decency sould allow. But then the federal system is currently being broken beyond repair...

This shift to computerized state tests was made possible by schools' adoption of one-to-one devices. Which mostly happened with Covid. And yet, we rarely discuss the possibility that computerizing tests--without first teaching computing skills--might've contributed to subsequent test score declines.

never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
I can never point to my first issue but comics gave me everything. They made me want to read, want to write, want to draw, want to make my own little stories. It made me want to learn about a medium and about authors&artists and the history of the craft. Comics gave me the tools to love art.

That's why we all go, "Oh, at the start it sort of felt like we were all in it together. It was horrible, but nice in a weird way...?" It's because for, like, the first month, the government were mostly acting like an actual government should in a crisis situation.
Some people hate Fauci, and ignore verifiable facts and history to try to "get him." They're weirdos. But it's also weird to ignore facts and paint Fauci as some type of public health savior genius, when he made trade-offs that killed so many Black people, and did worse than *checks notes* Nigeria.
He dumped water we needed in LA to fight the Palisades wildfires into the Central Valley just to fuck us over and it wasted water they needed for the grow season. No one remembers this either. It's insane.

one policy debate we deserve but are never going to get to have is what demands to be done to make blue states and cities whole after this presidency

Ive called the cops once in my life, for a drunk driver smashing shit down the main street i lived on. Dispatch said "what do you expect us to do about it?" And hung up
Fun@funkelly.bsky.social · 4d agopolice don’t want to even try to prevent crime. twice in my life, in two separate states i flagged down a very not busy cop to go after a very nearby and easily stoppable drunk driver- the first rolled up his window and ignored me, the other one (who was with many cops) told me to call someone else.
