The supermarket that I shop at employs mentally challenged. They are greeters, baggers, and perform other functions. They are normally pleasant and happy to have a purpose. I like shopping there, it's a reminder that there's room in this world for all of us.

And some love for the human 🧠 for #FluorescenceFriday. I like these zoom outs where you can see a whole structure - here, striatum. Green is MBP and outlining the white matter tracts, 🟣 is DRD1 and if you zoom in (see zooms in following posts) there is 🔴 for RXFP1 marking clusters of island cells.

I’ve always said that submitting a grant proposal is an exercise in hope—not just in terms of being funded, but as a symbol of what it means to dream big and ask exciting questions. Despite everything happening to federal science over the last year, I’m holding on to that hope. Proposal submitted.

The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted. What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards. Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
