If we let the current crop of "AI" people stay in charge, we are not gonna make it; not because of "superintelligent AI," but because of what the MIT study terms "cognitive surrender": offloading and deterioration of critical skills. And it increasingly feels like that's exactly what they want.
A key point: you do need a theory of communication, alongside a theory of politics, to be an effective operator I think the centre and left struggle, generally, with "playing the game" - it's not enough to just have policy prescriptions you think will work
there are good and complicated reasons "quality of life" issues became the domain of the right, but the left's great failure since the '70s has been operating under the assumption that results matter less than righteous intent, despite arguing for a material politics

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.
It's hard to believe that letting him get away with it once only encouraged him to do it again. Who could have foreseen this? Who?

That was Feb 15, 2025. The first month of Trump Term II. Not surprising that abandoning principles for weak acquiescence led to more abuse.

I am old enough to remember Richard Nixon. What he did was criminal, but basically more stupid than anything. He didn't hurt American citizens. He was just paranoid. Compare to Trumpy who has cost everyone so much, it's not even a fair comparison. Trumpy makes billions while all of us suffer.

I had no way of knowing at the time this sentiment could be interpreted as applying to people of a gendered persuasion
the state of american politics for the last 20 years is republicans leaving their "how to beat us playbook" on the 50 yard line and democrats saying "well we just cant win no matter how hard we try, no we wont pick up the opposing team's playbook even though its sitting right there"
im personally past the point where i see democrats leaving perfectly potent lines of attack just sitting there and chalk it up to incompetence. its clearly deliberate.
