“We spent an entire runtime watching New York City turned upside-down under ridiculous circumstances for the moral of the story to be ‘yeah, you should wait.’ Does every ticket come with a purity ring?” I reviewed ONE NIGHT ONLY,which feels retro and not in a cute way www.avclub.com/one-night-on...

One Night Only sends itself to horny jail

For a movie based around the 12 hours when sex is legal, One Night Only is an infuriatingly conservative romantic comedy.

Another life. Another family forever changed. Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo should have gone home to his family. Instead, his family was asked to identify his body. Remember his name. 🕊️ Delaney Hall needs to be shut down. #SheShed

Still image from a video showing a father hugging his smiling young daughter at a celebration. Large text reads: “Another immigrant man dies inside Delaney Hall, his name was Edwin.” The video discusses the death of Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo while in ICE custody at Delaney Hall.

doing a spot of genealogical research and just found a generation where out of (at least) nine children, only one appears to have made it to adulthood, and i'm just thinking about trying to tell that poor woman how we have the means to prevent that today and yet many are turning away from it.

I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

I have just been sent the transcript of a deposition my grandmother gave in 1977 while she was serving as an expert witness in a series of tribal rights cases and let me tell you, if nothing else this is proof that I come by it honest for every conceivable value of “it”

"Were [Sen. Mitch] McConnell among the 3 in 10 residents in his state who receive [Medicaid] (instead of the health insurance he gets as a ... U.S. senator), his absence from work would not qualify him to receive Medicaid assistance under the Trump administration's new ['medically frail'] rule[.]"

Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear is demanding that Sen. Mitch McConnell provide evidence of his ability to continue serving in office, or resign immediately from his position.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

After my parents were visiting set for the first time, I asked my dad what he thought. He said “I didnt realize, it’s like you’re building a house, and once an hour good looking people run in and put on a play for five minutes. Then they leave and you go back to construction.”

People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...
