Rejecting LLMs isn’t about rejecting their utility or failing to be aware of their power —it’s about rejecting that political project; born out of an awareness that any use of these machines at all promulgates that project and assembles me into adjacent responsibility for its commission.
They shot The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh and the end chase sequence circles the same block for like ten minutes and I realize no one else would notice this but it makes the geography of that chase hilarious to me.
Alex Zalben@azalben.bsky.social · 4d agoThe Spider-Man Brand New Day credits (not the end credits scene, but the shots of regular New Yorkers over the main credits) drive me nuts because they look so good and real it drives home how the rest of the movie was shot in Glasgow but looks like it was shot on a studio backlot.

There's going to be a Rick and Morty episode riffing on OBSESSION and it's going to speedrun the entire film in the first five minutes, then escalate into some kind of apocalyptic nightmare of everyone snapping One Wish Willows in increasingly unhinged and destructive ways and I will like it Better.
Something about OBSESSION that I think has wrong-footed some viewers against it is that Barker keeps describing the inspiration as coming from The Monkey's Paw, but if you take that at face value, it suggests Barker thinks there was a way Bear's wish could have played out without being awful.

While Knight's work on the film was great, I can't say I enjoyed Masters of the Universe outside of the energy he brought, but I've got two petty gripes. 1. How dare Leto get praise for just ripping off Sam Witwer's Darth Maul voice. 2. You cannot needle drop a different 80s franchise theme song!

Here's my thing: I see no reason why anyone needs to be held to following the rules so long as those rules do not apply to the people holding power. There is no accountability for Republicans doing this exact thing or worse, so why should anyone risk themselves following rules opponents can ignore?
