The raw capitalism that shirks all responsibility other than that of their 'shareholders' (and thus the shareholders) that we have allowed to blatantly direct our governments has zero interest in the quality of life other than their own. So, here we are - we allowed greed to set the agenda.

Imagine if, aside from all the other climate change things we could do, we’d stop expanding housing onto farmland/flood zones; we built up transit instead of roads; built sponge parks and invested in infrastructure; made cities more sustainable. All things also make quality of life better.

I used to work in stormwater drainage. I often notice how these areas gets filled with water, then ice, then slush, when it's cold. Back then, I lobbied the city to utilize ADA-compliant trench or slot drains that are very common in Europe. Here's an example on Argyle street in Halifax.
