This is the thing to watch. Captian Canada will use his unearned reputation thanks to Trump (he is a long time Trump supporter and deeply unpopular in Ontario) and use this crisis as an omnibus to move things on his agenda that are normally politically difficult.

Why is Doug Ford fighting with Toronto over bike lanes? The city has already invested heavily in cycling infrastructure, and Bike Share Toronto is at record-high ridership. His plan will cost taxpayers across the province millions and won’t do anything to improve congestion.

Toronto would build this for over 1.7 billion dollars per kilometer and somehow gaslight themselves into thinking that cost is reasonable because Canada is constrained by land rights, labour unions, safety standards, maternity leave and universal healthcare unlike... France.

It really feels like a rename back to SkyDome is in the cards. It's not just the two identically named venue thing either. Rogers has been using "Dome" more and more. From "Work from Dome" to reintroducing Domer as a mascot, dome terminology is no longer verboten.

Yes, intent matters, but if we think for a minute about how both are deaths, it should give us pause that we treat these statistics differently. In many cases of vehicular manslaughter negligence is a factor. How can we support such negligence behind the wheel? It’s a social crisis.

The biggest thing missing from Carney's well-received speech yesterday was any substantive mention of the tech sector. Again, a key litmus test for Canada's willingness to actually distance itself from the US is whether it continues to designate Palantir, Microsoft et al as Canadian companies.

"Canadian businesses must stop wishcasting for a world that no longer exists." Yes and: Canada's govt is lobbied by a purportedly Cdn big tech sector that's US-owned and pleased with the new normal. It poses a real security problem for Canada in its own right and should be considered accordingly.

Cities in #canada are the most capable of reducing the need to own multiple cars to live and work. If we elected serious people capable of moving beyond ideology, the tariffs are actually the best time to shift on mass people from needing to buy expensive cars. But no. Political theatre only
