Genuinely maddening that a completely manufactured moral panic about "high" rates of sick leave in Norway actually resulted in a "GPs get paid extra if they don't grant sick leave" policy. A horrendous perverse incentive to "solve" a "problem" that isn't even there.

When I first went to get my driving licence changed a worker at the DVLA rejected it and forged my handwriting to claim I had a disability that prevents me from driving. Whenever I tell cis people about this they invariably tell me 'well you should have disclosed it'. Even though I don't have it

I have now become aware that on 6 February this year the New South Wales Government amended the Crimes (Administration of Sentences) Regulation 2014 to allow themselves to V-code trans women Here is the amending statutory instrument: legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/pdf/asm...

[1] Clause 3A: Insert after Clause 3— 3A References to male and female inmates (1) For the Act, section 79(1)(a)–(C1), the following factors may be considered in deciding whether an inmate is a male or female inmate for the purposes of this regulation— (a) the risk to the safety of the inmate or others as a result of the decision, (b) the effect of the decision on the requirements to maintain security and good order under this regulation and the Act, (c) other factors the decision-makers considers relevant. (2) It is not necessary that the decision is consistent with one or more of the following— (a) the sex of the inmate recorded in a birth certificate or other identity document of the inmate, (b) the gender identity of the inmate expressed by the inmate, (c) the external physical sex characteristics of the inmate. (3) In this clause— 'decide' includes classify.

The EHRC guidance does not apply to workplaces, and trans people are not criminalised for using any toilet in the UK. But the whole point of this - as with Section 28 back in the 1980s - is to intimidate people. Don't give into that fear.

Just a reminder that: - this isn't for workplaces and if your work is trying to implement it scare them over discrimination claims - the onus is on the service provider, not the service user to comply - the code *itself* says enforcement of toilet facilities is unworkable and low priority

This might be a bit niche, but it’s very annoying hearing of organisations saying “well it’s the law to segregate trans people so hands are tied” when most of them respond to accessibility law with “eh who’s gonna catch us?”

Given that the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the UK in the last few days for pushing trans people to the margins of society (in a piece challenging European governments to respect the universality of human rights), it's clear the UK is an outlier.

I have no idea how things are going to be in the UK tomorrow when this segregation and Toilet Policing comes into effect. I'm less concerned with rules, guidance's meanings etc and more terrified of how abusive people are going to feel greenlit to do potentially dreadful things to anyone they want.

Raise the Colours Oxfordshire organiser Ben Cullen head-butted a highways worker after police were called to McDonalds in Benson where highways staff were attempting to remove flags from lamp posts; Highways staff now wear unbranded PPE, work in unbranded vehicles, wear face coverings to hide their identity, and do not travel alone for fear of attacks; Highways staff working on streetlight maintenance, not flag removal, have been spat on and abused by RTC supporters; Cullen and his partner Trudy Wells posted the office addresses and phone numbers of highways depots online, leading to comments suggesting “hanging council workers from those same lamp posts”; RTC Oxfordshire fixed trackers to the vehicles used by highways staff, then used this to find out their home addresses – which have been published online, and repeated to staff with threatening messages; Highways depots now have to remain locked at all times; A highways contractor’s sponsorship of a children’s football club is being rethought after concerns that children could be targeted.

Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Code of Practice for Service providers, Public Functions and Associations I am writing following our conversation at Mayor’s Question Time (12 June 2026) where I raised concerns about the distress and anxiety trans Londoners tell me they are feeling following the publication of the revised Code of Practice for service providers and associations by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). You told me that your “priority is to ensure London remains a city where everyone, regardless of gender identity, can thrive, feel safe and belong.” [1] You'll be aware that this week, on 5 August 2026, the Government's updated EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect, following an order from the Minister for Women and Equalities. Trans led organisations, such as Trans Actual, have maintained that the Code remains unworkable; it does not protect trans people, it does not help service providers and it does not respect the UK’s human rights obligations. [2] Despite cross party condemnation, with 166 MPs signing Early Day Motion (EDM) 240, tabled by Nadia Whittome MP, in an effort to halt this discriminatory guidance, there has been no debate in Parliament. The government's own Equality Impact Assessment admits that this code of practice would have wide-ranging negative impacts on Trans people and that Trans women could face a "disproportionate risk of violence and sexual assault.” [3]
