This is right. If a politician opposes trans rights because "polls show" they might lose votes, you have to wonder who else they'd throw under the bus. "Polls show" interracial marriage... or gay rights... How about race? What about "the Jews" - because once you're going down that road...

The biggest difficulty for trans rights – the general public seems to believe the new guidance makes it possible to exclude eg trans women from women's services in some circumstances. No. This was the previous position. The current guidance requires their exclusion, always, regardless of context.

This is a huge lesson. Don't be afraid to do things because the right's media will say bad things about you. They're going to do that no matter what you do. Doing the right thing is always the right thing politically.
