Do I enjoy travelling Ryanair? No - I resent it with every part of my being. Am I going to pay three times as much to fly with an airline that will treat me with basic respect? No I am not.

just had a horrific vision of the future in which Zack Polanski and Kemi Badenoch have a podcast and now I need a lie down
got a text today from an unknown number asking me if I'd seen Christopher Nolan's Odyssey and if I had any thoughts on it ... it turned out to be from a friend's new number, but for a while I really thought it was a devious new scam targeted at heterosexual men
You're not having a good time at a festival until you're singing the song from the Pepto Bismol advert are you
Sorry to hear of Rod Liddle. But hopefully it’ll be less of a problem going forward.
I put on The Last Stand for some reason and all I can think of is the greatest tumblr post of all time
Some great new reaction images to use when people are obtuse on BlueSky.
just seen a post talking about the risk of gentrifying Brick Lane and concerned that the person who posted it maybe got hit on the head very very hard around 15 to 20 years ago and decided to get to Instagram upon waking today
It is quite strange how little the actual public inquiry we're having into the UK's Covid response - the one that's publishing in-depth reports every few months - factors into the "you're not even allowed to ask these questions" complaints. We are, in fact, officially asking these questions!
Acrobat has offered to turn a PDF of an airport parking ticket into a podcast. Can’t imagine it would be a great listen.
It's convenient how big AI companies keep "accidentally" demonstrating the terrifying power of their product almost immediately after market dips or ahead of significant share offerings.
Here's a fun game via @machill54.bsky.social on the Size Five Games Discord: how long does it take you to find @alexhorne.bsky.social on this image from 2003? Here's a clue, it'll take way longer than you'd ever imagine possible.
One thing I can confidently say is that more than a few other books have been canceled for AI use--including by established authors and non-fiction books--that have just not made the news yet.
👀 Fascinated by the "withdrawn by its agents" detail. So the AI use was so blatant that the agents due a huge payday preemptively withdrew the contract?
"The problem: publishers and movie companies may not be able to register copyright and come away with a clear title chain if there are certain AI elements in the mix. That’s because AI-aided copy is an amalgamation of many other copyrighted works." 🙃
This is such a killer for not just AI writing but that whole category of AI writing apps: deadline.com/2026/07/ai-q...

Sainsbury's to sell Argos for £120m
I think the original post got deleted so I cropped out the name, but I've thought about this one for a while lol

The new issue of Empire is on sale tomorrow. I interviewed Miriam Margolyes for our esteemed 'How Much Is A Pint Of Milk?' questionnaire. I think the word 'riotous' is overused in journalism but, well. Just including our opening exchange here. The rest is just as fruity.
Gotta shut down the factory that makes this kinda guy

Temperatures reached 35.2°C today, marking the 7th day of 2026 where the UK has recorded 35°C or higher 👇 Prior to this year, the record was 5 days of ≥35°C, set in 1976 and 2020 🌡️
The least useful response in this kind of case is "everybody knew." Yes, sometimes "everybody knows" but the dogged reporting it takes to get survivors to go on the record, to document it comprehensively, to provide a body of evidence--this is still often necessary. I thanked Alice yesterday again +
Guess who’s got three thumbs and just got fired for stealing from the morgue?
Amazing way to make your cat look like she's plotting to murder her nephew who has the King's ear and is cautioning against escalating the war with Spain
She loved her surgery cone for the first couple days (it made her feel powerful and intimidating) so we got her a courted ruff to look sinister in.
Holy shit I had no idea! Now to inject “Wilson is a nepobaby” into the discourse and open the world’s biggest bag of popcorn
Re the Emily Wilson discourse - her Dad (A N Wilson) was the king of literary feuds. A good family tradition. Best one was his feud with Bevis Hillier who hoaxed him into including a fake letter in his biography of Bejteman where the first letter of each sentence spelt "AN Wilson is a shit".
