Hello. If you struggle with maladaptive overachievement, and anxiety about productivity, and you experience relief at the sensation of productivity and difficulty regulating your behavior around demands for you to be productive, that doesn't make you a bad person, and that is not addiction.
There is a useful bond market term for what Warsh is about to experience. If you’re a bad counterparty (either dealer aka sell side or customer aka buy side) you get “put in a box”. No information flow, no favors, phone doesn’t get picked up. It’s very funny they’re going to do this to a Chair.

Good reporting and a sign that Warsh has completely lost his colleagues two meetings in. Temu Greenspan in for a bad couple quarters.
Four people from inside the most confidential economic decision making room in the world got this to the Times two days after the meeting, and the fact that the story flags the fact that any three FOMC members can call a meeting is also a tell IMO.
If you have a job where you can wear shorts and that's expected, go for it, but I do think there are jobs where what you convey in your appearance is important and in those cases, well.

Look, you can like Nolan's The Odyssey or not; Emily Wilson had the moral right and the expertise to write her take eviscerating it; you can enjoy it or dispute it or both; you *also* have the moral right to disagree, archly, with Wilson. You can choose to be an adult about this.
Embarrassed I didn't catch this the first time. Not willing to call racism based on solely this excerpt. At minimum tho, this is a good example of how the, uh, ostentatious tone of academic criticism can inadvertently lead you to say some pretty crappy things because you're trying to be scathing.

Adaptation and translation are different projects. Wilson's Odyssey captures in modern language the values and preoccupations of dark age Greece. Nolan is viewing the story through a modern lens and with a focus on what the story and how we read it says about us.

It’s dumb to flatly reject the words of an established expert in a field who has spent years looking at the problem. But it’s also dumb to accept *all* of their statements as gospel truth, too. What it takes is “discernment”, which the US has been generally terrible at teaching or expecting of ppl.
I'm certainly aware that you're not endorsing this, but people who think the review was oddly mean are correct. Also, many, many people familiar and unfamiliar with the way academics commonly talk/comment to each other hate it viscerally.

I mostly don't agree with this review, but you should read it because it is well-written, thoughtful, and an interesting perspective. The headline here is probably the meanest part, which reads more like an academic review/comment than a film review.
