On July 29 StatCan released a 'corrected' version of its table 36-10-0713-01 with annual labour productivity statistics for 2025, by industry and province. They contrast greatly with the annual version of the quarterly LP statistics released June 3. Hard to know what's going on with Canadian LP.

The Film industry's fixation on established IP is now so terminal that they themselves confuse IP and branding. If you want a "completely different" James Bond, what you actually want is, something that isn't James Bond, but is James Bond branded. Which is dumb. Make a new thing, and make it good.
Micah@rincewind.run · 2h agoevery time I see this there's a lot of "what if we did a completely different thing that isn't James Bond at all" hypotheticals and, yes, many of those hypotheticals sound neat and I would like to see those movies but they are not James Bond, lots of us still like James Bond, let's do both

An interesting take on this, but it doesn't really address the accusations of market power. High ROI on capital and low margins do not stand as an argument that the grocery sector suffers from a lack of competition. Quite the contrary. 1/5

But its median return on invested capital is above that for all firms, so it is NOT a low profitability business. Let me explain. 🧵

Reacher is almost a spiritual successor to the A-Team. The dialog is bad, the action is good, and the character motivations are simple and uncomplicated. But it knows what it is and doesn't feel like it was written by a committee of profit-bots. Also, Tom Sawyer by Rush, so that's 2 reasons to watch
