I can't stress enough what a crisis this is. Trump's own intelligence agencies concluded that Iran attacked Minnesota's critical infrastructure and Trump is saying that it's Minnesota's own fault and denying it was Iran. The federal government won't defend blue states in a literal war.

U.S. Sees Iran as Likely Behind Cyberattack on Minnesota Water Systems (Gift Article)

Investigators cautioned that the assessment was preliminary. There were no indications that any water supply had been rendered unsafe to drink.

Climate change is an “everything” problem. Wildfires, floods and heat waves of course. But also waves of human migration and financial crises for homeowners, insurers and banks. The human pain is real, but ignoring it doesn’t make it go away. thehill.com/opinion/ener...

The climate crisis is here, it’s accelerating, and it demands action

It’s completely nuts that Trump won by less than 2M votes with near universal media help and worldwide rage at incumbents and the media treated this like a permanent sea change towards MAGA and now less than 2 years later he’s the least popular President in history and there’s no media reckoning

After today's shameful display of medical McCarthyism, imagine the next pandemic. Imagine that world's foremost expert on infectious diseases considering jumping in to help millions of people. We are in a deeply dark and disturbing place for the future of science. And for the future, period.

So, what happens if I'm a parent and I know that my kid needs highly paid teachers, a library full of books with diverse characters, trans-inclusive bathrooms and extracurriculars, and a curriculum unpacking topics like systemic racism, colonial oppression, economic inequality, and climate change?

Facebook post from the U.S. Department of Education, saying "Parents know best" with a picture of a cartoon White, two-parent, heteronormative family, featuring a dad in a tie and sweater vest and a mom in a dress and pearls.

Facebook's role in the proliferation of lies and conspiracies that millions of Americans believe about elections cannot be overestimated. From your family members to government officials, the spread of this virus has reached all corners of society.

All major medical associations say that making Standard Time permanent would be best for human health, circadian rhythms, and the safety and wellbeing of schoolchildren. So of course America is working to make Daylight Savings Time permanent, not Standard Time.

Trump doesn’t force people to do bad things. All he did was show people they could get away with being horrible if they really wanted to, and a lot of powerful people decided they didn’t need to pretend anymore. Especially those in influential positions who could push back but did not.

For the @nytimes.com, the biggest crises in higher ed are grade inflation at Ivy/Ivy-adjacent institutions & 'wokeness,' not the defunding of public higher ed, attacks on academic freedom which disproportionately impact public institutions, crumbling campus infrastructure, exploding student debt

This entire episode is exactly why the Founders vested the power to declare war with Congress. They anticipated the dangers of a president being able to start wars willy nilly. Unclear though if they anticipated a president as wildly incompetent as this one. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/13/u...

Trump Says Fighting With Iran Has Resumed as He Orders Blockade and Tolls

After several days of strikes, the president notified Congress that fighting had begun again and announced shipping fees that his administration previously deemed illegal.

A border wall through Big Bend would be a monument to corruption. Local law enforcement opposes it — because it won’t make anyone safe. It’ll only make out-of-state contractors rich. We don’t need a corrupt wall. We need common sense border security.

Just a random reminder that trickle-down economics was invented by conservatives in the 1980s to justify massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. It’s been nothing short of a disaster.

I've turned down interviews with news outlets and interviewers whose politics I don't like, so seeing someone show up on the podcast of an actual white supremacist is sort of mind blowing. These are choices. Really bad choices.

We cannot accept the reckless use of deadly force by federal agents as normal. There is a pattern of this administration misleading the public and withholding key facts after these killings.
