LOL. whenever someone who hasn't had a tangible success in a while reverts to the "we couldn't make that show today" argument it usually means "i haven't had a hit like that show since yesterday".

I think people are right that Doctor Who shouldn't be written by fans, like the disastrous Christopher Eccleston season. Instead it should be written by people who hate the series. Just being unfamiliar with it isn't enough. They need to have a violent emetic response to just hearing the theme tune.

I really liked Daredevil Born Again overall... but only loved about 20% of it. (That number was 30% but I rewatched all three seasons of the Netflix Daredevil). But I let a lot slide because Dario Scardapane had to build season one from the ashes of the legal dramedy that Kevin Feige nixed.

There was a Toronto-based BBS that was, no joke, devoted to discussions of the Bible and discussions of Doctor Who. (Not both). This would be 1993 or so before I discovered Usenet and email. I spent so much time on the Doctor Who part of it. And discovered Sylvester McCoy haters and IRL fans.

I wrote a short story 15 years ago about the life and career of Canadian superhero Johnny Canuck after his comic was cancelled. There was a mention of an obituary in a (real) Canadian newspaper. Turns out a fandom wiki cited the newspaper in my story as a legit source!

Re: the Avatar discourse. The criticism that nobody can think of quotable lines is based on the misconception that good dialogue = dialogue that lends itself to being quoted. But if you come out of a film having been engrossed by the story and the characters, not remembering a quip is not a fault.

I’ve been seeing this cover over and over and I just… In the original you’re aware of the horror of falling, but the body positions of the workers are solid on the beam. Here, most of them should be falling off, yet they don’t, because they live in an unreal, consequence-free space.
