Part of the point here is that these people's conception of the ideal academic - undeniably smart, but hates woke - isn't easy to find, so they have to make him up or come up with a contrived historical example where the reality was actually much more restrictive and political than peak wokeness.

This is the same level of rigor they're bringing to claims of fraudulent voting, and is obvious as an error-prone method to anyone who has taken an introductory stats class.
