I've been so sad about this all day - Butcher and Blade were of course my "local guys" but Butcher especially so; we actually went to the same high school (at different times of course). Incredible menace in the ring and just seemed like a huge sweetheart outside of it

the never-ending quest for literalism/simulationism is maybe the worst design tendency in the history of video games
Steve@stevetown.bsky.social · last wk.We talk about early games abstracting game worlds so you can traverse them quickly and it's fine, then modern games wanting to "flesh things out" and you end up with world bloat and slogs of games that take way too long to do anything and go anywhere. Rebirth had this problem.
the thing with simulationism is there's realistically only so many input keys/mechanics you can incorporate into a game so the more you can "interact" with the more it becomes a game of pressing a context-sensitive button to watch a movie play
