A study organised by California Polytechnic State University of 256 Cook pines (Araucaria columnaris) across 5 continents north & south of the equator, showed that they ALL leaned TOWARDS the equator, and the further from the equator the more they leaned

Swifts don’t stop to feed their chicks one insect at a time. Instead, they collect hundreds in a special pouch in their throat, then head back to the nest with a little insect-packed parcel. It can contain up to 1,000 insects. 🤯 Check out that throat pouch 👇 📷 @mart-the-gooner.bsky.social

A Swift in flight, displaying its long curved wings and streamlined body, against a blurred background of green foliage. Under its small head, at its throat, a round bulge is visible - showing the Swifts' special throat pouch full of tasty insects ready to regurgitate as a 'bolus' (pellet) for its hungry chicks.

July from Eliot Hodgkin's 'The Months', 1950. A globe artichoke takes centre stage, surrounded by heady white nicotiana flowers, a flaked carnation, a poppy head, cornflowers, begonias and Chinese forget-me-not. There are luscious summer berries but also the sinister touch of deadly nightshade.

June’s full moon is known in Europe as the #RoseMoon, named for the season when roses are at their glorious peak. In North America it is the Strawberry Moon, marking the strawberry harvest, while elsewhere it is called the Hot Moon, reflecting the arrival of summer heat in June.

Close-up photograph of two soft pink garden roses in full bloom growing side by side on the same stem. One flower is cup-shaped with neatly spiralled petals, while the other is more fully open with ruffled layers. Fresh green leaves and a softly blurred garden background frame the blooms.

Did u know? Stop & consider the amazing lives of small souls in our outside spaces. This munching Mullein moth, for example - it will molt 4 times before turning into a pupa & then it's in the ground, in this stage for up to 5 years before the brown adult moth emerges! Celebrate the small. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐛🦋

One of my favourite downpipes…not sure I had a particular thing for rainwater goods, until I saw this! 🤩 😂 One of the many excellent new(ish) interventions at Caernarfon Castle.
