one thing I miss from the pre-genAI days is that there was no questioning that human nonsense was simply human nonsense. a dog piloting a plane? some silly human toiled over that in photoshop. now, when something is nonsensical, we question if it’s ai and don’t get to enjoy it the same way.

I think what I mean is like the goal of indie-comics shouldn't *inherently* be to be polished, palatable, and high-brow enough to eventually leave. But I think in the Eng-speaking space that's currently… widely the case. And that's why ppl yearn for zines/doujin and more diverse opportunities.

It's cool for the part of indie comics culture that like wants to see if it can wiggle its way into career comics culture but there needs to be enough support for indie comics culture that wants to stay indie comics culture, too. We need more doujin vibes. More zinester vibes.

"what can I do?" Call your reps and tell them to vote no on the Online Safety bill package because things will get worse the more censorship laws are allowed to pass. Tell your reps that payment processors must allow legal content. Go yell at youtube for their shitty TOS.

The TOS being so strict that they control you offsite is the problem; sites like Patreon and Kofi have offsite clauses too. The social criminalization of the suggestion that somewhere you might be doing nsfw is a problem. It's branding a person as obscene and we need consumers to stand up for us

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

Not to soap box about this but i feel that ppl in the english indie comics space should hear it: creating doujinshi/self published comics without the stamp of a prestigious fair or an indie publisher does not make you any less of a comic artist. drawing comics makes you a comic artist.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 763: Having a tough time? Good. Got a rejection? Good. Got a bad review? Good. Had to abandon a project because it wasn't working? Good. These things all teach you resilience, patience and determination; the things you need most as a writer.

not that I ever planned to do anything with the knights beyond sketchbook doodles, but in general telling a creator about your idea for their story or characters is the best way to make sure it will never happen lol (same goes for like Marvel or other public IP writers/characters too btw)

see, the thing is everything folks make up about these guys is stuff I won't/can't touch anymore for copyright reasons so in a way people spoiled it for themselves (not directed at you, just in general people tend to do that with creators and they never realize that's burned ground then) 😅
