UK television history and presentation mainly but other things as well, especially on here.

August 15, 1994 - The Guardian - Remember when even important roles received the classified ads treatments in the papers? BBC looking for a Business Affairs Manager who would have to handle high profile portfolios such as Doctor Who, further proof the show wasn't dead.

On Channel 4 Simon O’Brien was upcycling old items to sell for a profit. Left the telly on and when I got back from Tesco he’s overseeing a house renovation. I was confused until I realised they were two different shows. Bobby & Sheila would be so proud!

No 73 was broadcast live on Saturday mornings and ran from 2 January 1982 to 27 March 1988. The show had an ensemble cast including Sandi Toksvig, Neil Buchanan, Patrick Doyle, Andrea Arnold, Kim Goody and Kate Copstick.

Here is a comparison of how Red Dwarf, “Holoship” was first introduced back in 1992 on BBC Two network, and how network, Wales and NI introduced it last night. Forgive my poor editing done at 2am.

So tonight, not only did BBC Two introduce the Red Dwarf episode "Holoship" using the same symbol used in 1992, but it also used most of the original continuity script. Your 1992 network announcer: Halyna Kozak www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jV6... Your 2026 network announcer: Nicola Phoenix

I don't trust my stuff to the cloud, and that's not because I don't get it. Back in '97 we made a BUGS episode in which criminals sold backup storage in their datacentre and then pulse-bombed the client's computers so they could ransom their own data back to them. The fragility's always been baked-in

What a nightmare PBS broadcaster loses access to 50TB of data comprising 70 years of TV history after contracted cloud storage vendor goes defunct — public TV channel sues Iron Mountain data center, which hosts archival materials, to ensure preservation | Tom's Hardware share.google/ExvNkuiN1bIl...

I was only little but I remember the results coming in on an actual clattering teleprinter that had a close-up camera trained on it. The switch to the "vide-printer" felt like we'd arrived in Tomorrow's World.

Insanely excited to tell you that @worldoftelly.bsky.social and I will be hosting a 50th anniversary celebration of one of TV’s most unique dramas, Philip Martin’s Gangsters, on 8 November with some amazing guests. Part of this year’s Square Eyes TV Festival in (where else?) Birmingham. Do come!

50 Years Of Gangsters + Q&A | Mac Birmingham

Gangsters was a TV drama like no other. Burrowing into the dark underbelly of the Birmingham crime scene, it mixed Shakespearian soliloquy with comic strip

It may be old news to everyone else, but I've just noticed that David Jason appeared as a secret agent in an episode of The Masterspy opposite a contestant called Penfold, two years before he played the voice of Danger Mouse (a role in which he replaced The Masterspy's host, William Franklyn).

David Jason as Special Agent Bill Higgins, in newsboy cap and denim jacket, talking on the telephone.Computer screen identifying "Special Agent - Penfold".Contestant Jim Penfold, a white man with receding black hair, wearing a black jacket, white shirt and orange cravat. A security pass on his lapel identifies him as "Special Agent Penfold".Around a table in the Department of Hazardous Projects, contestants Special Agent Penfold and Special Agent Wilkinson, together with the Major (William Franklyn), interrogate Special Agent Higgins (David Jason).
