A lot of things that I'd learned were strategically necessary as a high level technical IC delivering evidence (being exceptionally warm, constantly placating egos with rapport building) suddenly flipped into severe penalties when I was a VP. It was interesting to observe

I have looked through the NYT's financial statements and people should know that the NYT's profits have gone up significantly since 2022, not because of news-only subscription revenue, but because of revenue driven by puzzle and recipe subscriptions, alone or bundled with news.

This may be true of others but I actually got express permission from the trans community to keep NYT games and recipes. I also have a news subscription, which is arguably worse, so I had to specifically send in a written request. Took 30 days but I got approved.

OH: today i found a bug in the buck2 build rules. or maybe rustc. the bug is that they need to make out sloppy style and currently do not

I think this stuff is really scary and much scarier than the fake arguments. We will not solve it on the individual morality level. Only online jackasses can believe that cancer patients should be bullied for caring more about staying alive than their privacy purity.

the way they get you is that it's not a trick. more data really does make it better. all your chats, email, records, documents. this is why it's such a mistake to focus on the errors they make this week. you need an argument that's persuasive even if it works, because it absolutely will work

codeberg code of conduct update bans "*that* kind of code. oh you know what i mean. cmon. you know which code im talking about. i fucking know it when i see it ok"

"make no mistakes" negative, unrealistic, anxiety inducing, process focused "do a breakthrough" positive, incredible, aspirational, goal oriented

@arrdem.tirefireind.us do u want access to my cursed buck2 bootstrap-from-scratch repo? it is currently totally slop (read: agent designed the RE setup for its VM sandbox...), but it does produce a modern gcc from the 257-byte (or whatever it was) binary file nixpkgs has for minimal bootstrap.

To pull above the weariness -- because I AM weary -- it reminds me how much it matters to be open to the possibility that the social world is trying to hammer you into something more pliable and that those of us who are different will never have the same path. We need to make our own paths always

Not the Linux firewall being buggy 😭😭😭 nftables silently turns "drop these packets" into "actually, pls let everything through". This has been in Linux since 2022, no one caught it. How did we find it? with formal verification. Read more: www.basis.ai/blog/verifie...

Using LLM-based Verification to Eliminate Bugs in Linux's Network Stack

We used LLMs to verify Linux's nftables `nft` CLI utility. Along the way, we found and patched bugs that had sat in the kernel for years.

AI-driven pseudo-productivity and the associated decline in real productivity and effective communication are going to become a big problem in corporate America, and I suspect this will happen regardless of how much the frontier models improve in capability.
