I've maintained that right-wing billionaires see media as a "loss-leader" on the way to getting favorable legislation by shaping public opinion, but they've always _created_ the outlets for that media. This _takeover_ had only a slim chance because you had to completely change the audience to win.

One of the Cornell students accused of gang rape, Scott Kretzschmar, denies it and says through his attorney that they are going to “confront” the survivor through the court system. I can already tell you that means victim-blaming, DARVO, and smears. She is going to need a lot more of our support.
The thing with the Cornell rapists is that there are folks having discussions about what can be proved and legal standards and university actions, and then there are people who are discussing if these young men did anything wrong at all and if we should be mad at them. Those people are evil.

Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social · 17h agoThis is absolutely correct, but I worry that "truth and reconciliation" will sound too foreign to Americans who have long been allergic to truth and/or reconciliation. I'd just say "we're finally going to hold people who broke the law and violated the Constitution accountable for their crimes"
Unfortunately I do think this is the goal of a lot of awful politicians. But we're not going to let them win. We stand together for everyone's human rights to be themselves.

Gotta admit, my first impression of this was that someone at ICE told Daily Wire they would stop kidnapping non-criminals precisely so the Trump admin would loudly deny it and thus publicly reaffirm a policy that is firmly underwater in polling.
