Read Project Hail Mary, then watched Project Hail Mary, enjoyed both. FWIW film stuck to the book more than I had heard; mainly glossed over details, rather than changed the narrative. I think the big fundamental change was the tone – film is lighter, less doom – I'm not mad about it.

“Protect users from discrimination and harassment” is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting for a code that is explicitly designed to target, harass, and enable discrimination against trans people, who should be protected by the Equality Act 2010

Equality and Human Rights Commission@equalityhumanright.bsky.social · 12h ago

Our code of practice for services, public functions and associations comes into force today. It provides practical guidance on how the Equality Act 2010 applies to services, public functions and associations. Find out more: https://ow.ly/alIf50Zwrkx

Quote from Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson: 'At the EHRC we want a society where everyone’s rights are respected and realised, so that we can all live well together. Our statutory guidance will help services across the country comply with the Equality Act, protecting service users from discrimination and harassment while reducing the risk of the provider being subject to litigation.

As Britain’s equality regulator, our work doesn’t end upon publication of this guidance. We monitor compliance with the law and take enforcement action where proportionate and necessary, in line with our well-established regulatory model and decision-making framework.'

More fun with #Deezer: – Downloaded song won't play, because app is trying to connect to internet. So, go to activate offline mode – Can't get into settings, because of no internet access?? – Finally activate offline mode. Song stops playing, popup says "deactivate offline mode to play this song" 🫠

Even I am taken aback at the new and surprising ways these people find to insult the public’s intelligence and make it more clear the only operative professional standard in force is “LOL fuck you”

Badenoch said: "So I want to be very clear, and I think people can look at me and know that I'm not a person who would be recruiting neo-Nazis to the Conservative Party.
"Joshua Bonehill-Paine is someone who actually has been certified by the Home Office to train police officers on anti-Semitism and on countering extremism.
"Yes, he is somebody who had been previously convicted for this, but he is someone has shown contrition for his crimes, has been rehabilitated and is spending every day working to solve the very problem which he knew he had caused previously.
"He's going up and down the country training people and the Conservative Party believes in second chances.
"This is not just someone that we've picked up who's a convicted criminal, this is somebody who is actively working to help communities, especially Jewish communities and this is what I want to see.
"I want second chances for people, for people who've learned their lessons, for people who are showing that they know what they did was wrong.
"What I don't want to see is early release of people who have no contrition whatsoever, who don't care, and who are going to be out on the streets actually harming people.

The GCs are uniting in their grief over Rod Liddle's death, a man who assaulted his young pregnant girlfriend and said he couldn't be a teacher because he'd rape the kids. He was also a vicious racist, long before it was so profitable. He hated trans people, so, to these 'feminists' he's a hero.

We just lost someone I would never in a million years have been expected to be friends with, or probably even to have made peace with...

Gutted about Rod Liddle, he was a great man. I take huge pride in having been regular contributor to his show, and I appreciated his support for my writing very much. I know full well what the online sisterhood think about this but I don't care in the slightest.

Oh no! I really liked Rod, had a drink with him a couple of times, and did his show every month. He was always so kind about my work, and we had a total laugh every time I was on the programme. Awful news.

I will remember Rod Liddle for the fact that the lawyer who checked my book before publication had no issue with me writing that Liddle couldn’t be a teacher because he’d have had sex with the students. Why? Because Liddle wrote it in a national magazine.

I find these tributes truly sickening and just another desperately sad indication that these monsters care nothing for child victims "He was a great man" - Kathleen Stock "I really liked Rod. He was always so kind about my work" - Julie Bindel 1.

What's the best three album run from a band? (the correct answer is Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure by Rush, but I'm excited to learn second place)

Today is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. Around 500,000 Roma & Sinti people were killed by the Nazis in the Porajmos. There was no state given to them after the war. Commemoration of their suffering is often diminished or forgotten. Racism towards Romani people across Europe remains acceptable.

It's cool how Farage is plummeting in the national polls (relax, he's still definitely winning Clacton again) since the press collectively decided a couple of months back that they'd finally had enough of him but it would have been way cooler if they'd done that in, like, 2011.

This is what I mean when I talk about the Fantasy of the Optional Pandemic, where the virus was erased from the equation and mitigation measures were always portrayed as an avoidable choice. Headlines about what actually happened are never even acknowledged.

There are working class and vulnerable kids who will never have the life they should have had because of school closures. Let’s address that too, shall we?

"By the end of 2030," reports NYT, the amount of energy used by data centers"is expected to quadruple, eclipsing the power used by all countries in South America and Africa combined." This is extinctionism.

Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.

Wes Streeting has been made Defence Secretary. In his released correspondence with Peter Mandelson, he said: “Israel is committing war crimes before our eyes.” Journalists should ask him: 1) Does he stand by that? 2) What legal obligations does the UK therefore have?

Hungarian President Sulyok has signed the 17th Amendment to the constitution therefore removing himself from office. It’s been amazing to watch. Orban's Fidesz has been falling apart before our eyes. 🧵
