Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.

A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

I know there's the straightforward "out of pocket expenses" but I mainly know it to be "acting inappropriate" from back in the 90's. Which is why it trips me up when I see "I am gonna be out of pocket for a bit" in the Work Slack and I am like, "Oh, go off!" but they just mean "away from keyboard"

Yet another bizarre permutation of the term “out of pocket”. At this point, I am convinced people are just substituting the word “pocket” for any other word that appears after “out of”.

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."

From a Reddit forum, a photo of a can of coconut milk with a blue label, papyrus text and a flip-top, on a sidewalk. It seems to hover because there's no visible shadow. The pavement is sort of unevenly colored, with bright spots, and the grass along it is green and lush.

Possibly one of the most impressive Safari bugs I’ve run into lately: Going back (with a swipe) in *any* React app that uses Navigation API freezes the page for three seconds. What’s fun is the main thread is not frozen, only the rendered page is.

(personally I tend to use models to deepen my understanding -- I think I've built a much better understanding of a bunch of different things over the last 6 months. I'm pretty allergic to throwing stuff over the wall, but it is helpful to walk to an unfamiliar system and ask a model qs about it)

I’m convinced that a large % of programmers don’t actually like computers. As a side effect, are also perfectly happy to throw away their reasoning to a model as soon as they can. I don’t get it, at ALL.

Not just academics. I often hear "X is good/better at...", "Y didn't work for..." without any mention of the prompt they gave it. Let alone the non-deterministic nature of the tools.

Begging academics to include methodology with their twenty post "I tested an LLM and this is how it failed" threads, I just saw a huge thread on how they fail at summarizing literature and it turns out the author wasn't actually providing the text, just asking it for summaries based on training data
