Disability-based historian who is excited to be teaching some amazing students about dead people. Ask me about my dogs!
Someone was pretty darn excited to see food incoming! A Northern Mockingbird fledgling for my recent favorite #BirdoftheMonth. Mockingbirds are born feisty. #BestofJuly #birds #backyard #Florida #BabyBird

I'm so curious how other people plan their terms. Here's one of my classes this term.
Nope. I’m going to be buried with my tabs like a pharoah

In case you're wondering "does mentioning a book on bluesky get people to buy it?", I just ordered this book from my local independent bookstore. Also once this comes in I'll own three books on the history of light pollution, a topic I've thought about a lot since I first moved to Toronto.
The Greenhouse #envhum book talks start up again this month! Episode 199: Sara Pritchard @sarabpritchard.bsky.social on Transforming Night: The History and Science of Light Pollution (@uwapress.uw.edu, 2026), Monday 24 August 2026, 4pm Central European / 10am Eastern. newnatures.org/greenhouse/e...
Friday night on Wards Island there was a joyous celebration of the win, with Mayor Chow leading a chant of "NO JETS!" before we paraded and later burned a jet effigy on the beach while paper mache Doug Ford and his cronies seethed. "Fight or Flight" by Shadowland Theatre, celebrating its 39th year.
I'm reading Dead Bees Still Sting : tales of life on the edge of nature by Susan Cormier. I'm only 25 pages in but the chapter "advice to a new bee keeper" is so beautiful. We can do such Beautiful things with language. #AmReading 📚
Family portrait. These two were the cutest little coyote puppies. I was so lucky to be able to watch them from my kayak. #mammals🌿
Ned's growing frustration in this thread made me laugh enough that people in the coffee shop started asking what was so funny. (Sorry)
Darby, would you care to explain?
I left a completely normal message at my local independent bookstore about ordering this book for me! I did not include "your favourite nemesis" in my self identification, because that would be strange! 🙃

“Your windows need scrubbing,” said Frog. “Your plants need watering.” “Tomorrow!” cried Toad. “I will do it all tomorrow!”
“Hey everybody, it’s your floofy pal Darby! Who wants sunny Seattle midweek walkies?!” 🧵
"There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible" is such an amazing line. I don't need to read the rest or watch the film, I'm content.
Why I should get a third dog and the support the Canadian government should provide me with to achieve this goal.
You've got a captive audience on a plane, and you know they can't open the doors and yeet you out. What subject are you gonna do a 30 minute sermon on?
Like all Canadian government surveys on AI, this is hilariously pro-AI. But it only takes like 5 minutes to fill out, and at the end you can make it clear that the only focus of the government when it comes to AI and culture is that Canadian artists need copyright protections from AI scraping.
Canadian arts and culture folks: the federal government has launched a (methodologically flawed) survey on "the Cultural Sector's readiness for Artificial Intelligence". If you're ready to resist or refuse genAI, here's your chance to let them know. pch.research-recherche.ca/f/s.aspx?lan...
We're so close to getting Elise to her new fundraising goal, friends! With the exchange rate what I thought was enough to get her over the line was short (I am bad at math) but $44 USD would make her life a bit easier and keep her kitties in rabies shots! <3 <3 <3

I thought this was her other big one but no, it is not, and I love her and I hope she and her dog live happily forever.
Hey @erinbiba.bsky.social please enjoy this storytelling masterclass, this emotional voyage, this impeccable sense of pacing and timing
My favourite part about bluesky is the pictures of birds but my second favourite is that my feed is filled with classicists and archaeologist who have been itching to share their knowledge about really really dead people and now I get to read it over coffee. 😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I will look through joyful advice soon! But the most important part is obviously that the dogs had so much fun at the beach. #DogsOfBluesky #AcademicsWithDogs
"What do you MEAN you haven't posted a duckling in DAYS?" - duckling. Biased. 🪶 🐣
Good morning! It's my birthday today! I have big plans for this year but mostly I just want to be happy. What things bring you tiny joys that I could add to my life? ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #TinyJoys
So this little guy was on the beach yesterday and brought everyone enough joy to fuel us into next week @darthbluesky.bsky.social
