What a piece of junk! "Harry runs a salvage operation, in which he and his partners reclaim trash and junk and sell it as scrap (or as other things). Harry also has a home-made spaceship which he sometimes uses to reclaim junk satellites." Aka the Vulture from Salvage 1 (1979). 🚀

I had a fess published a few years ago about how I couldn't connect with my lifelong pals cos all they wanted to do was booze and take coke. I told them how I felt, turned out they thought the same and now we climb Munro's on Sundays. Lads, talk to your pals.

7am start for tweets from a different touchline today. Boy has a U14 Rugby “Blitz” for two hours. He’s built better for Rugby than football. I think football is going to have to be dropped.

A world of Ballardian abandoned aerodromes and Shakespearean body counts, where everyone has a terrible time except the reader. Me on Eoin McNamee’s The Comets, which might appeal to fans of David Peace, James Ellroy and Cormac McCarthy;

The Comets — condensed, bitingly efficient short fiction by Eoin McNamee

In a collection of two novellas and 15 tightly pared-down tales, the Northern Irish writer plunges the reader into a world of danger, seediness and alienation

According to MIT News, Margaret Hamilton died at the age of 90. "A profoundly influential computer scientist best known for leading the software engineering team at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab during NASA’s Apollo program". This famous photo 🔽 inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison.

ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton. she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back. news.mit.edu/2026/margare...

old photos of a woman (Margaret Hamilton) standing next to a tall stack of books (printouts of Apollo space mission software source code)

School photos must be one of the last great rip-offs in the digital age. Eighteen quid for four 4x6 photos that you could print out in Boots or Tesco for less than 20p each! Plus, who has an optical drive these days to pop a CD into?

Price sheet showing, inter alia, four 6x4 photos for £18, three 7x5 for £24 etc.

OMG I had to check my work emails regarding an extra case in court tomorrow and I've just read this from an HR person. "on a knee to nose basis" A KNEE TO NOSE BASIS 😳

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Skydivers alert emergency crews, assist after plane crashes near East Troy airport

Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.
