As a human rights law academic, I'm ashamed of this country today and I'm ashamed of our supposed equality commission.
Our code of practice for services, public functions and associations comes into force today. It provides practical guidance on how the Equality Act 2010 applies to services, public functions and associations. Find out more: https://ow.ly/alIf50Zwrkx
For over 20 years trans people have legally shared changing/toilet spaces with people of their own gender, almost entirely without incident. Today they have been humiliated and driven out in a naked act of discrimination by the very bodies created to protect their rights. “Shame” doesn’t cover it
A terrible day for trans people in Britain and a shameful one for the EHRC and government
I thought today would feel dark, but in fact it’s farcical. There’s no way this can stand. It’s just so stupid.

This interview very effectively shows how unworkable this guidance is. It’s also quite funny that she’s standing in the middle of an extremely windy field for some reason.

Let's talk about JK Rowling's 'bearded men'... I want to vent something that's been on my mind: The way transphobic groups and individuals are also actively homophobic. I've experienced it first hand, and know many others have too. 1/
Read Luciana Berger’s appalling first-hand experience of this man. lucianaberger.substack.com/p/kemi-youve...
Kemi. You’ve made a terrible error of judgement.
I woke up in the States this morning to the news that Joshua Bonehill‑Paine has been selected and approved as a Conservative Party council candidate in Crewkerne.

In honour of Sex Matters losing I feel I need to bring this thread back - I need to make part 2 soon
Unhinged things the UK gender critical movement said that altered my brain chemistry part 1: When Maya Forstater tried to apply the principle of sexual dimorphism to a cartoon alien library mascot
The "gender critical" movement have lost both of these cases today.
There is no acceptable situation where all the female candidates (Monica and Katy) are excluded from the ballot and the male candidates (Michael and Joe) are left on the ballot.
🔴 Analysis of Scottish Labour's bitter leadership contest: - Lennon struggling to get on ballot due to personal/political differences with colleagues - Marra tarnished by association with past failures - Fagan a 'Baillie puppet' and not 'big league'
I was so proud of my confrontation with a man playing loud music on the train that I wrote about it - grumpy face included

Kudos to @unison.org.uk, @aslefunion.bsky.social, @usdawunion.bsky.social and the @wearethemu.bsky.social for standing up for their trans members. I would hope my union, @communityunion.bsky.social, would do the same given its clear policy on trans rights.

Why did that one random deer Odysseus killed that turned back into a human have to be so caked up…….like thank you for that Mr Nolan but also why
Two, very obvious, things which really struck me in Copenhagen. 1. Bikes racked up everywhere. But almost no bike locks. 2. No gates on public transport. You buy a ticket and present it if asked. Didn’t see any ticket inspectors. High trust societies are good.
My colleague Anouschka has done some brilliant work with @theguardian.com using our latest MRP and some new polling to work out how different electoral systems would change the composition of Parliament. www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-...

Hang in, somebody broke the Mile record, that has stood for 27 years, and no-one seems to have noticed?
Sacked ministers often say damn fool things, because they are feeling sad about being sacked and they’ve also lost their “don’t send that tweet boss” system too:
Seen a few people saying rough sleeping policy isn’t aimed at median public concern. Quite apart from any policy/moral imperative it really is - rough sleeping comes up time again in focus groups as one of the most visible signs of Broken Britain and community decline!
The thing about being competent and supporting Burnham’s take over is that they are not mutually exclusive. One might even argue they are complementary.
So, the 4 top jobs in government a PM can appoint all go to people not based on their competency but because they supported and/or involved in Burnham's take over. Also sends a message about Burnham's plans on immigration and asylum. 1/2
I am sorry but this is how I want to look whenever my revenge is complete. Lololol Starmer sacked her what an idiot
Very proud of these brilliant kids, who have worked exceptionally hard.
SCOTLAND IS THROUGH TO THE KNOCKOUT ROUNDS AT THE WORLD SCHOOLS DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIPS. After a unanimous win against Brazil, Scotland has secured a spot in the knockout rounds of WSDC. We’ll know our official spot in the break tonight! We can’t wait!
Socialist country 1 World Cup - Thatcherite country 0. Just saying ;)
I don't think parliamentary privilege should be used to make statements you can't substantiate on any level. The point of it is surely to bypass super-injunctions or protect whistle-blowers or blow hidden scandals wide open, not for flinging muck at your enemies until it sticks, no?
This is true and it’s very significant. It’s also true for LGBTQ+ people , where we have slid down the intentional rankings for rights so fast you’d imagine wed declared Madonna an enemy of the State.
This website is absolutely riddled with people who are completely unaffected by the rise in racism who love to condescend about how the people who are have misread something while offering absolutely zero alternatives.

He did get to hear the new Madonna album though 💕
Insane that he died before he finally got to see a ground invasion of Iran.
Nigel Farage “it’s like living in a Soviet country” Indeed Stalin famously permitted his political opponents long grandstanding unfiltered addresses on the public broadcaster. Truly, his long twilight struggle against State censorship is inspiring.
