there are two types of fans of things- those who treat it like a hobby and understand it's ok to laugh at things you enjoy and those who use it to replace church or whatever in their lives and are very vigilant against Blasphemy

ok seriously also like...are you all looking at the accuracy stats these companies are reporting, because they are *wild* and 0 access is being given to the underlying datasets used to make their claims
I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.
@englelaird.bsky.social Thanks again for the SSS-class recommendation - I picked up the first few issues and am really enjoying it!
Some people on this planet have never read a Grimms' fairy tale and it shows.
Google Earth has launched a new AI tool which allows users to create fake satellite images. A collapsed Eiffel Tower, a sinkhole swallowing the Great Pyramid of Giza and Russian tanks in Kyiv were among the fake images BBC Verify created when testing the feature. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I once knew a guy in high school whose nemesis worked at a pizza parlor. One day he walked in with a sack of quarters, put them all in the juke box, cued up Alice’s Restaurant as many times as he could, and did the one thing his nemesis couldn’t: left.
*standing up on the plane* This song is called Alice's Restaurant, and it's about Alice, and the restaurant, but Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant, that's just the name of the song, and that's why I called the song Alice's Restaurant.
it’s all fun and games till you get caught fucking in the mouth of a taxidermied blue whale
I just scheduled a donation - I know not everyone can, but if you can: it's super easy, and it saves lives. The Blood Donor app is fantastic. I HATE needles, but the techs know exactly how to work with people like me.

In closing, yes, my editing schedule is currently open! If you are looking for an editorial assessment, dev edit, copy edit, and/or proofread on your SFFH, lit fic, or YA books, hmu. (and no AI🚫!!) reedsy.com/jasmine-gower

If you can donate, please do. If you were previously not eligible to donate, the criteria have been SERIOUSLY revised: you are no longer deferred for spending time in England/the EU and the sexual risk screening has been replaced with a much more evidence based model.

At SIGGRAPH 2026 I saw this absolute banger of a paper by James and James. Beautiful imagery, matched by beautiful technical work, by a father and son team, which won a best paper award. I've always loved marbleization patterns. dougjam.github.io/mixwell-2026/ www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

One thing I've noted over the years of OSINT is that no news is actually news. Sometimes it is even important to figure out why.
'Iran reported no strikes overnight into Saturday, an apparent break from nearly two weeks of consecutive nights of U.S. attacks, but tensions remain high following a recent escalation over control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.' apnews.com/article/iran...

If you told me as a kid that a book I wrote would be in the LIBRARY I’d have lost my damn mind. I’m delighted to hear when people check out my work from theirs.
People are always so apologetic about getting our books from the library. And I'm just like, beyond just their massive civilizational utility, libraries are the best advertising an author could possibly hope for
Get my book from a library! I was broke for decades. For more than half of my life, nearly all of my access to literature was thanks to having a library card. Feel no more shame in using yours than you would heap upon me. Libraries kick ass.

What some refer to the "terminal lol" actually serves a very important grammatical function, a sort of copula, akin to the Japanese "desu" lol
They’re doing generational hate speech on T*reads
“We are like books. Most people only see our cover, the minority read only the introduction, many people believe the critics. Few will know our content.” ― Émile Zola
