I’m glad that the @goodlawproject.org is launching a legal challenge against the EHRC’s new Code of Practice, which is dangerous, unworkable and has been opposed by a quarter of all MPs. The Code will discriminate against trans people and subject many others to gender policing based on stereotypes.
Pro-trans groups challenge EHRC guidance on single-sex spaces as rules come into force
Good Law Project’s trans rights lead, Jess O’Thomson, criticised the government’s approach, calling the code of practice “transphobic”.

The EHRC’s Code of Practice comes into force today — a dark day for trans people in the UK. For last month’s @leftlion.bsky.social column, I wrote about why this new guidance is so deeply harmful and where I think we go from here.

We think this challenge is incredibly important – it goes to the very heart of whether trans inclusion is still lawful. But it is impossible without your support.

The bizarre and disturbing thing is that Joshua Bonehill-Paine is one of the few figures on the right to be loudly and clearly called out for anti-semitism. Is that because it doesn't happen much on the right? You have to be kidding. So why the double standards? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
No one should get a free pass on antisemitism – so why does the right?
There is legitimate scrutiny of antisemitism on the left, but at the same time, rightwing media outlets offend with impunity. That makes no sense, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

I look forward to hearing this again, in a documentary about what a shameful episode in our nation's history this was.
A reminder that in Greek, the Trojan Horse is the Wooden Horse. And that in Greek folk song, a "wooden horse" is a coffin. Folk memory of the destructiveness in the myth? Or maybe the original wooden horse is itself a kenning? (Horse thoughts.)
It's fairly impressive that Badenoch leads a political party with 3,800 councillors but has the same understanding as to what they do as a random bloke complaining about his Council Tax down the pub.
This is absolutely extraordinary. It's hard to know where to start. The utter tone-deafness? The scorn towards local government? The high-handed dismissiveness towards people affected by racism and antisemitism? Badenoch is an X-brained crackpot.
Badenoch is absolutely convinced she is the smartest person in the room. Meanwhile ...
Ein Reich, ein Volk, ein collection every fortnight?
If Jeremy Corbyn had said what Badenoch has said today, it would be leading every TV and radio broadcast and all of tomorrow's front pages.
Horrendous stuff, but again it is grimly hilarious that the Tory leader is so awesomely stupid that she doesn’t understand she’s humiliating everyone and making an absolute mockery of almost a decade of terrifying all-channels panic.
- We believe in second chances! - So you think refugees deserve a second chance at making a life? - Not like that - Young people who’ve made mistakes shouldn’t be punished? - Nope - Benefits to help people get back on their feet? - Ha! - So who do you believe in second chances for? - Nazis!
Ah Kemi must be glad there’s no #PMQs this week …. #Badenoch

"At least we're not giving him a national platform!" saying Badenoch, on the BBC's flagship political radio show.
To be fair, “Councillors and council elections don’t matter” are a load-bearing part of the “Kemi Badenoch is doing well and the Conservative party’s prospects under her are looking good” thesis.
It's OK for criminal ex-neo Nazis to run your bins is a hell of a line.
Amused at Kemi Badenoch telling radio 4 it's fine to select a former neo nazi as a local councillor because he's just dealing with 'bins' etc but that she has a higher threshold when it comes to selecting MPs. Which is why, I presume, she turned down Grant Shapps??
In a typically idiotic moment during the interview, Badenoch exclaimed that she never watched his videos, quicky followed by "I don't like his videos" & "he makes fun of lots of politicians in his videos". #r4today
She supports him because he makes AI slop videos on Twitter which she watches
So Badenoch would recruit a neo-Nazi but *not* someone who didn’t want to leave the ECHR or someone who supported our NetZero commitments. Second chances for this guy but not Dominic Grieve. The Tory party is truly wretched. It’s screwed the country, betrayed its own and lost its tiny mind.

Bringing this back to EHRC commissioner @sundersays.bsky.social attention. You have a responsibility to uphold equality for all people in the UK. Your organisation is failing badly at this - in fact they are agents of inequality and oppression I hope you’ll actually try and fight this in some way
An excellent piece from the civil servant who helped draft the Equality Act and worked a policy and strategy director at the EHRC until resigning under Falkner. I hope @sundersays.bsky.social and the other new commissioners will read this, giving particular focus to this section
BREAKING: The UK equalities watchdog’s 'transphobic' code of practice is set to face a legal challenge, it has been announced A pre-action letter sent to the EHRC and the UK Government says the guidance is being challenged for 'unlawful misstatements of the law'
The government’s transphobic code of practice is now up and running. But we’re not going to stand still and take it, we're supporting a legal challenge led by a trans person and a trans inclusive organisation. But we can only do this together. Will you join us?👇 goodlaw.social/ldco
