Politics is expressed through "culture war" to the extent society is multicultural. It only seems like things used to be more principles-based or driven by economic fundamentals because huge swathes of people were (more) disenfranchised and suppressed.

The entire Republican Party, and a chunk of the Democratic Party, have a direct interest in convincing you that conservative wins are a mandate and anything else is not.

“Will you accuse Republican officials of lying when they are obviously lying” is a much bigger problem for the future of news under its current system of elites than how they handle invisible watermarks in fabricated imagery. Its fascinating to see them obsess over the latter and ignore the former.

Did you know MLK spent much of 1966 talking & working with Chicago gang members? King was a listener, Stones leader Jeff Fort explained & saw a "wealth" in their potential. He drew their respect because King "stood" on his commitments-a "warrior without a gun". www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/02/o...

Jeanne Theoharis and Erik Wallenberg: The unknown history of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Chicago housing movement

Every once in a while leftists relearn online that MLK had guns in the 50s and treat it as winning an argument about guns that certainly lasted the duration of the Southern Freedom Movement. I think it’s unfortunate that they don’t also learn that Bayard Rustin convinced him to get rid of the guns.

Fannie Lou Hamer said she didn’t know much about communism, but “if we push just a little farther than they think we should push... then they say, ‘This is communism.’ So I began to wonder about communists because from what the people is really telling us, it must be very good.”

🎉 THE GREAT LAKES WON TODAY. MISC just vacated the permit for Enbridge's Line 5 oil tunnel — 6 to 1. The oil tunnel has no state siting approval, which is required under federal law. This victory belongs to the Tribes who never stopped fighting: They led. The Court listened. #ShutDownLine5
