much is made of "meat's back on the menu boys" but personally I'm quite compelled by the Uruk Hai complaining about days-old bread, man's been alive for at most two weeks, was grown from some revolting fleshy underground alien womb and already he yearns for a warm baguette

New YouGov polling. A monumental failure of our political class to educate, a monumental failure of our media to report fairly, for a generation
"I know you're angry about immigration" says Starmer on Twitter. No. I am supernova furious at your casual assumption that everyone in the UK is an intolerant racist. And that therefore it's fine to treat immigrants like dirt because you're in tune with the prevailing mood. Get in the bin.
I can’t help but think something has gone wrong in your life if you’re spending your morning off work holding a sign that says “Large Gametes”.
Don’t forget to include a short sentence every once in a while in those long scholarly paragraphs.
All I'm saying, @royalsociety.org, is that your one of your Fellows giving Nazi salutes is never going to be a good look for you.

ORCID is the only thing that works properly and doesn’t make life worse. Bonus to be able to use it as a login for some things!
Thank you @grahamkendall.bsky.social! We think of ORCID not as just a number, but as a persistent anchor point by which researchers can curate data related to their research (funding, affiliation) or outputs, and share it with external systems in a trustworthy way that reduces their burden.

what’s happening on twitter right now shows just how important it was for left of center people to leave it earlier these assholes need a target, and deprived of their preferred options they are ripping each other to shreds
This is a very good essay if you, like me, have been grappling with the changing world and what it all means and where we're going. Despite the title and heavy topic, it's actually more hopeful than most things (while still being real). rojospinks.substack.com/p/how-i-beca...

Love the idea of an S-index, and an NIH competition, to incentivise data-sharing. Would be nice for this to include sharing *materials* (code and stimuli) which is at least as important for replicability. Funders always emphasise sharing *data*
