A local game of Wingspan came to a grinding halt after one player spent almost his entire turn making memories he’ll cherish forever. paletteswap.site/dif...

Logician. I make video games and puzzles sometimes.
i think the core problem with the library (and cortana, and other famous Bad Halo Levels) is they all highlight Halo’s core campaign design weakness as campaigns which is that they are very bad at exerting pressure on you and instead greatly reward boring, slow, methodical play
why the fuck does my laptop have a "neural processing unit"
looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy
Are you a) Someone familiar with multiplayer turn-based strategy, b) Comfortable talking into a mic and having your voice recorded, and c) Wanting to earn like 100 bucks? I'm looking to record some multiplayer footage for DOCTRINEERS for marketing purposes. You'll be compensated for your time.
Two reasons this has been happening for the past ~50 years: Republicans created a media-political ecosystem that elevates and mainstreams its fringes, creating an ongoing mutation that makes them worse and worse; and Democrats have chosen to accommodate them instead of pushing back harder and harder
One drum I keep beating is that the Trumpification of the Republican Party is irreversible. Even after he's gone it will be exclusively cranks, charlatans, and malevolent antisocial goons. "It was always like that"-it wasn't! It's gotten steadily, measurably worse, and he was the nail in the coffin
New, from me: It is fine to disagree with aspects of the pandemic response. But what we saw at Fauci's hearing was something different: a show trial where cranks tried to threaten and shift blame to an public servant. Here is why this is bad for all of us.🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/watching-t...
*whispers* you know we can do this cultural debate about art thing all the time, right? Websites and news organizations used to have culture critics on staff whose entire job was writing about books, movies, and TV. People read them and then discussed them. We have the technology to do this again.
Too many people in this space ultimately only care about their ability to play games. Their entire ideology is based on the premise that games are some right accorded to them. When that's your most core belief, nothing serious can be built on top of it.
I’ve seen peers completely ignore BDS while championing the “power of the PlayStation Boycott” in the same breath recently. Frankly, I’ve just so little respect for these people. Why is it a race to be the most unserious person imaginable lately?
apart from how corny and stupid it looks it‘s seriously so bleak that for at least a whole generation the default video game character was a GWOT era soldier guy
I don't think people understand how thin the line between "deportation" and "extermination" really is - not just in Europe, but everywhere the topic comes up. Many people feel comfortable with the idea of deportation because it obscures the underlying violence that is necessarily implied.
And to spell it out: when DHH says "deport Romani people", those are people who are citizens of the country they live in. Where would they be deported to? When the Nazis ran into this same question, they created extermination camps. bsky.app/profile/anil...
The Greeks will invade your country then 20 years later write an epic about how sad their soldiers were when doing it
7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
don't know if i have the constitution for game development if one hater comment makes me feel this bad
i now understand why every indie dev is insane about the big channel du jour and trying to get their game out in front of tastemakers
Their plan is to say as little as possible and win by default, which in their mind is the safest path that doesn't alienate anyone. This misses the opportunity to galvanize the public around important issues, and then they throw up their hands about how the voters are ignorant and apathetic
I do find it amazing that even in this moment, the Dems can't come up with some sort of "Contract for America" like language that offers an alternative to Trump. Maybe they have it, but whatever governing vision they have is lost in the noise.
DOCTRINEERS is a turn-based strategy game for sickos and weirdos. I have spent far too long working on it and I hope you all give me 25 us dollars for it www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dJo...

the primary cultural gap in gaming is whether or not up on the control stick jumps (sickos) or not (normal people)

i have spent the last week putting together this trailer and it is agonizing that i need to actually sleep on it before I push it out to the entire web
isn't it weird how spears became, in popular culture, a feminine-coded weapon
video where I ask an MTG judge various rules questions around hypothetical situations until it eventually becomes obvious that I'm describing episodes of yu-gi-oh
Careful, Odysseus. Polyphemus might be blinded, but he's still strong. Make sure he doesn't call for reinforcements, or you'll be in trouble.
many responses to the disney layoffs asking why pixar is being hit when its the live action movies that are failing and i unfortunately have to say that below the line workers in film don't have salaried permanent jobs so they dont get headlines but they have definitely also been laid off
Wired sets the frame that the model “escaped containment,” but from an accountability perspective, OpenAI left a door open by failing to properly isolate their system. Real headline: “OpenAI’s security failure leads to cyberattack against another AI company.”
The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.
