Facebook back in 2021 temporarily turned off the “drive people insane” setting and it completely changed what people were seeing. They turned it back on when engagement dipped by like 1 percent.

This is right. Trump II is the worst administration in our history because Trump has no ideology beyond "evil" and is too lazy to govern, so he hands his power to whoever wants it. Every flavor of evil shows up, and each one gets the job where it can do the most damage.

for as long as i've been alive, republicans have ran the same playbook: a few weeks before voting begins, they roll out completely fabricated smear campaigns. these things are always coordinated, so the talking points take over the news. the party is never electorally punished for their dishonesty.

A good summation of David Brooks and "civility" politics generally: no one on the right-wing can ever be described honestly, while everyone who isn't on the right-wing is always portrayed as a radical breaking cherished norms.

More generally, this is a big reason why I have not pushed harder to try and break through as a professional writer. In two years I have managed to get three raises and lose 90 pounds with consistent three day weekends. I listen to my friends who are indie authors. It terrifies me.

Sometimes people push back when I say that staying on Twitter/X breaks your brain & makes you lose touch with reality. Here's a post from the guy who led product at X when they shipped their "create CSAM" feature, with a reply from a psychotic dude who's been posting about me for 14 years straight.

The countless people who glossed over disinformation and normalized MAHA in any way should recognize this the result of their actions. We no longer have to wonder how the Tuskegee experiments were allowed to happen. We are seeing it for ourselves.

This is a disaster. The ethics committee in Denmark that approved the Guinea-Bissau study which will withhold the birth dose of HepB vaccine “had never considered medical studies before but it changed the rules in order to vote on this one”. Four members of the committee have resigned in protest.
