In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
The history of violence in this country largely coming from the state sanctioning violence against minorities through refusal to extend security guarantees to minority communities and leaving them to handle decidedly non state violence is perhaps important in thinking about how violence works.

I like Mamdani and I like what he’s doing and I’m glad he’s been successful so far but I’ve got to admit a bit of trepidation that all of Bluesky seems to believe he has Solved Politics, and also to express it in robotically similar language.
I thought this was already the case for campsites and lodges, and until this Trump admin nixxed it, it also was the case for many of the most popular parks (or at least, the most popular sections/access points of those parks)
