Well, this is infuriating. Apparently, thanks to RFK, I can no longer get a Covid vaccine for my 3yo at the pharmacy. If I want to protect her from Covid, I’ve got to get a doctor’s appointment. This fucking country, man.

The Department of Homeland Security and Los Angeles US Attorney Bill Essayli took time out of the day to fact check me, and in so doing appear to suggest that their own lawsuit is wrong. I hope the California is paying attention; they are saying online what they weren’t willing to say in court.

Once again @USAttyEssayli continues to
SERIOUSLY misrepresent what is going on here.
As the lawsuit HE filed makes clear, DHS and DOJ identified 20,000 people they *believe* are noncitizens on voter rolls. But they ADMIT that t...

That's not true. The 20k represents the number of noncitizens confirmed by a review of federal databases. This has been confirmed by @USCIS and @HSI_HQ. The data has been provided to California, and they are free to check the work. But that suggests California is actually interested in complying with federal election laws.Another QT of my post:

Incorrect, the numbers add up.
DHS's July figure, up to 190,832 records, was a PRELIMINARY universe of CA voter-registration records that matched records of aliens in DHS holdings that were pending manual review. The approximately 20,000 referenced in @TheJusticeDept's complaint are just the subset of records manually verified so far.
Preliminary screening and completed verification are not the same thing — there is zero discrepancy.Lawsuit screenshot: 45. As part of an investigation into unlawful voting, USCIS-after executing the processes just set forth-sent to HSI for further assessment a list of more than 20,000 individuals who USCIS believes are registered to vote in the federal election in California and are likely noncitizens.
46. HSI then performed its investigative process described above and reasonably believes that around 20,000 noncitizens are registered to vote in California. This means
that, consistent with state law, nearly 20,000 noncitizens in California have been sent a vote-by-mail ballot to participate in the federal election (or will receive one), with many addresses listed in Los Angeles County.Lawsuit screenshot: 60. To be sure, the United States actively investigates and prosecutes incidents of unlawful voting. But it is not practicable or feasible for the United States to investigate before the 2026 election concludes thousands, let alone tens of thousands, of individuals that two federal investigative offices identified on the California voter roster as likely being sent vote-by-mail ballots. California is thus knowingly imposing an obstacle on the United States' ability to enforce 18 U.S.C. § 611 by facilitating unlawful voting rather than working with the Federal Government to prevent it.

Bluntly, I do not want to — and just can't — deal with it constantly. I am working nonstop to explain what's going on, but people insisting on doom not only do harm by helping Trump and his minions — but it also causes harm to the lawyers and activists fighting back and to those of us covering it.

dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

Documents released by a watchdog group suggest that despite Trump's promise to fund Freedom 250 events through private donations, taxpayers largely footed the bill. The budget estimates leave open questions about where tens of millions in private donations ended up.

Newly released documents raise questions about what happened to the corporate and private donations.

This not only means our borders are closed to those fleeing religious persecution - it also means that those who are here are arrested, imprisoned, & often deported to the places that torture you for being Christian or the “wrong” religion.

When Matthew Soerens of World Relief tells Christians the Trump administration has banned persecuted Christians, many don't believe him. We talked about why. Listen to the whole conversation: austinkocher.substack.com/p/president-... @matthewsoerens.bsky.social

Quote card. Matthew Soerens, World Relief: “Occasionally, they do not believe this data, because they’ve heard so much rhetoric about Donald Trump being a great champion of persecuted Christians. It just is so dissonant with the rhetoric.” From the conversation President Trump Bans Christians Fleeing Persecution, austinkocher.substack.com
