Hi, I'm KingoftheUzbeks. You may remember me from such projects as “so-so AH” and “mediocre fanfic”. ↙️↙️↙️. He/Him/His. Go Crew, Go Bucks, Go Reds, Go Cavs, Go Jackets and God Help Ohio's NFL teams.

Back in the 00s, some gas station owners in MI would drive down to NC with their minivans and buy 199 cartons of cigs at a time (200+ had to put information down), fill their cars up, and then pocket the tax difference back in MI in their stores. Cool grift, too bad they sent the money to Hezbollah

the funny thing about people in the western world being angry at sikhs for taking all the trucking jobs is that people in India are also angry with them for taking all the trucking jobs. It's not you. It's what we do. We are the Truck Guys.

Destination Moon. Hergé's first scifi story predates Sputnik and is some of his finest work. Isolation at a secret base, mystery, great art, much needed characterization of Calculus. And a real sense of dread at the risky venture. No recommending until I've read Part 2, but I *really* enjoyed this.

Land of the Black Gold. Atmospheric with hijinks thrown in. Topical politics with Generic Arabs. Cold War drama and deus ex machina. A study in contrasts Herge refuses to explain why Haddock showed up.You can tell this was written in discrete chunks. Recommended, but less than the sum of its parts.

This is always a pretty easy tell for "does not actually understand Israel/Palestine outside of memes." I don't think anyone could look at the political currents of Israel and argue that the Mizrahi are somehow the people who will find common cause with the Arabs...

a perennial obsession of anti-semites is the attempt to find 'real Jews' who can be used to attack other Jews. It's the role that Neturei Karta plays for a chunk of the British left too. But picking Mizrahim given actually existing Israeli politics is a real know-nothing sign.

American Jews have every right to advocate for policies they want. We have every right to safety from antisemitic violence and discrimination, even those of us who have shitty opinions. What we don't have is the right to be free of disagreement with our emotional-support ethnostate.

Not sure if it gels with your other mechanics, but I think a thematic addition would be some way for characters to be “marked” with divine disfavor for certain acts

This is a great call out in part because “disabled people suffer” is the thing RFK likes most about the present state of global health, and it’s the problem he’s trying hardest to worsen. I should have led with it. Meaningful oversight.

'I do feel like there's also disabled people suffer" on that list (obviously even more so if they are poor, women, or people of color) and very specifically for us disabled folks RFK wishes that we would hurry up and die.

To the extent there are problems with The System, they’re largely (1) poor people suffer, (2) women suffer, and (3) people of color suffer. These are all things RFK likes about The System. To give him credit for “shaking things up” is to out yourself as either a eugenicist or a dumbfuck. Or both.

You actually don't have to do the "well, you know, I disagree with MAHA but they're right that there are real problems with The System" thing. That's a concession you absolutely do not have to make.

Doesn't this actually depend on the specifics of the goods in question? A cheap wallet on Amazon is $10. An Hermes wallet is around $4,000. If I replaced my cheap wallet literally every year for 80 years I would still have only spent a fraction of the higher quality one.
